The Black Fountain (1 rating) by Josh Pereira
Page 15 of 29 He watched in horror as his best friend was torn at. Boar could see Scower
was still alive. With all of Scower’s strength he managed to scream out, "Help
me Boar!" Boar saw the death in Scower’s eyes. With utmost rage Boar charged
the griffin and knocked it off his friend. He ran over to it and began to punch
it and mutilate it. Boar grabbed his sword and pierced through the griffin.
With a final screech the griffin fell. Boar was outraged. He went into a fit of
rage, killing all of the griffin attackers. He went from one to another, his
anger running supreme.
Many griffins fell under Boar that day. And two warriors were taken out.
Boar sat silently by the fire, when all the others were sleeping. Tanzarian
looked out of the tent and saw Boar. He walked over and talked with Boar. "He
was a friend to us all Boar. We are all sorry for this loss." Boar looked up to
Tanzarian. He nodded his head in agreement. He got up and walked toward the
battlefield. "Where are you going, Boar?" Boar turned to Tanzarian. "I’m
burying a friend."
Tanzarian got up with him. "No! Don’t do that. We will take the body with
us." Boar looked confused. "Why? I think my friend deserves a proper burial."
Tanzarian had no choice. He told Boar of the Black Fountain, and how they could
use it to revive Scower. Boar was overjoyed. "Well then let’s go beat that
Verd!" Boar ran to Scower and carried him into his own tent. Boar slept two
ways that night. Full of joy that he could save his friend. He was also full of
rage. He knew in his heart someday he would vanquish Verd.
Gonz stumbled down the path. "Why wouldn’t those idiots be back already!"
Gonz was tired and needed a rest. But he knew he could not stop. With himself
out of the picture, Verd could take over easily. He needed to hide. he stumbled
off the path, planning to meet up with his soldiers when they take the route
back. He searched a little ways into the forest and found a large hollowed out
tree. He went inside and sat down for a moment. He began to think about days
long lost, days when everything was peaceful. Deep in Gonz’s hart, he did not
want to rule over every land in Deckbin. He rathered peace and justice. But he
couldn’t change now. He had made too many enemies. And he couldn’t join Getrau’
in the Militan. They would never allow him to. Gonz began to think though. What
if he showed them the Black Fountain! They could use it to empower themselves
and defeat Verd! Gonz knew this would appeal to them. He got up out of the tree
but tripped on something on his way to Getrau’. He looked down and saw him. It
was the crumpled form of Fig. Something inside of him ached. A feeling of evil
surged through his bones. He knew now he could never change. He was Gonz. The
great overlord who would destroy everyone in Deckbin. He looked over the
horizon toward Getrau’. He started off in that direction.

Goater reached down and picked up the key. He was sure he would be out. But
he wasn’t sure if he could save his friends now. They had to have been close to
Getrau’ now. But he didn’t care.
Better a man alive then a man dead. Goater placed the key into the lock on
the latch on the ground. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Josh Pereira, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
