The Black Fountain (1 rating) by Josh Pereira
Page 20 of 29 These odd looking creatures are very muscular and the color of purple. They
have blood red eyes, and vines hang from their body. They are quite gruesome
creatures. Anything that enters their territory will be taken capture. When the
Militan was only just beginning to resist Gondo one of our soldiers ventured
off into the swamp. He was soon captured by the vine beasts. They attempted to
rescue him but in vain. They saw what gruesome things happened though. They
would usually place them into an open arena and fight with one of their
strongest warriors. They would stand no chance.
Tanzarian examined the ground with Friculon. "Well what do you think?" said
Tanzarian. Friculon took some more time to examine the ground. "We are
definitely getting close. I believe only another day this way then we will cut
in to Serta." Friculon laughed. "I may not know much about battle, but I know
Deckbin better than anyone." They continued their march onward toward Cove.
Only a few more days until they arrived. The men were beginning to grow tired
though. It had been a long journey thus far. They had managed to escape the
hoard of griffins thanks to Boar, but now they grew closer to danger than ever
before. Serta forest was not the most safe place in Deckbin. Neither were the
swamplands. It would be rough, but if they could win the war now the pay would
be much greater than the stakes at hand.
They stopped at evening time. They set up camp once again and made the fire.
Fradox sat and played another tune on his guitar. He was a regular bard. While
he played he sung softly to ease the men’s spirits. Other times he sung loud
and the men danced and sung along with him. He usually did this snacking on
Gosh Taffy. After a great battle he would play us a song about war raised with
fury. Before battles he would sing of victory and the like. By now the men
could not picture the Militan Army without Fradox’s music.
A group of warriors known as the Red-Rock Squad woke up. The Red-Rock Squad
was not as strong as the Qaud Squad, but was still strong. They had many
battles together, and it was a great honor to be a part of this squad.
Tanzarian remembered many good days with Red-Rock before he moved up to the
Qaud Squad. The squad moved out of their tent and stretched. Their squad was
made of only four selected men. Their was the leader, Courage. The rest were
Bravery, Patience, and Innocent. these men were brothers and they were named
after certain virtues. Their father was a great warrior for the Militan.
Courage looked around in terror. The army was gone.
He called the rest out of their tent and they did not know what to do. They
searched frantically in the area for Tanzarian or anyone for that matter. But
it was too late. The whole army was already gone into Serta Forest. Bravery and
Innocent went up the path more to search but found no one.
Eventually Courage decided they would continue northward, towards the
swamplands. Of course, these men didn’t know of the swamplands and what dangers
lied there. They didn’t know how much danger they were getting themselves into.
After traveling a little ways into the swamps the men began to sink in the
rising waters and mud. Traveling was too hard for these four men, especially in
the swamplands. They had already abandoned everything except their weapons. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Josh Pereira, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
