Page 5 of 29 "But where will we go?" asked Derek. I looked at the map of Deckbin. "We
should go to the Brab stronghold." I said.--- "There we can gather more
men."
"What will become of Lock and Xavon?" asked Fradox. "I don't know. We cannot
wait for them. They might not come back.." I was cut off as the tent fell to
the ground. Everyone started screaming. Outside I saw bright flashes of light.
And the hideous shadow of the dragon.
I used my sword to cut through the tent. I looked through the hole I had
cut. Outside I saw Lock and Xavon fighting the dragon. Xavon destracted the
dragon with his speed while Lock cast continuous fire balls at the dragon. The
dragon turned around and bit at Xavon. All he got was air. Xavon jumped from
one place to another, occasionally striking the dragon to anger it. Soon the
dragon tired of Xavon’s games and turned to Lock. Lock screeched as the
dragon’s gaze pierced through him. He stopped firing at the dragon and ran. The
dragon took only a few steps before reaching him. it reared back its head and
readied to set Lock ablaze. Xavon rushed past the dragon, but he knew he
wouldn’t make it. Just then I saw Fradox standing outside by the fallen tent.
He raised his hands high and then towards Xavon. Xavon felt a sudden charge and
ran faster. He caught up with Lock and picked him up and ran back to the tent.
The dragon, not noticing that Lock had left, released the flames and seared the
edge of Serta Forest. The trees became engulfed and the fire quickly spread.
Xavon ran across the clearing towards the main gate of our stronghold. When
they got to the gate Xavon lunged Lock up in the air. Lock screeched in fright
as he was hurled through the air. He landed with a thud on top of the arched
gate. "Conjure as much magic as you possibly can Lock!" yelled Xavon. Lock
looked down to him and shrieked.
Lock raised his hands as a big black ball of energy floated above his head.
The dragon, gaining speed, was upon Lock. The ball above Lock’s head grew
bigger. The dragon raised it’s head and opened his mouth, readying a final
flame. Lock screeched as he let the black ball fly towards the dragon. The ball
sped into the dragon’s mouth. He swallowed it and doubled over in pain.
It lay lifeless on the ground. "You did it Lock!" screamed Xavon. "No..."
replied Lock. "Run Xavon!" Xavon looked dumbfounded. Lock jumped off the arched
gateway and ran towards the tent. Xavon just stood in his spot. Lock turned
when he reached the gate. "Xavon! Quickly! Get over here now!" Xavon started to
run. It was to late. The dragon exploded, catching Xavon in its grasp. Lock
watched in horror, as did all of us, as the blast caught Xavon. The ground
began to shake. We started to get on the ground as the blast rushed past us.
Lock held onto one of the tent poles, but his efforts in vain as he was blown
away. Lock landed in a bush by the fires. We all sat there as the dust cleared.
Everyone was there. Except for Xavon. That is what happened today.
Now the war had only just begun.

It was a dark day in Yoct. If you have never have seen Yoct, it is quite a
gruesome place. Trees from Serta Forest were on the west side of it. The seas
lied above it. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Josh Pereira, sffworld.com. All rights reserved. No part of this may be reproduced or reprinted without permission in writing from the author.
