Wormhole by Bruce Pisarsky
Page 4 of 4 "Oh man."
Randall turned to where Norton was looking and immediately saw the problem.
A group of vehicles, floating just above the tops of the "wheat" was lined up
about fifty yards away. They had barely heard them. They couldn't see into odd
looking things but there was an undeniable air of menace surrounding them.
Both men heard a very faint pop and everything went black.
When Randall woke up he was staring at a ceiling and knew it wasn't good
news. The ceiling and walls were a greenish color and made from something that
looked like some sort of foam. The light in the room was coming from small
globes that hovered in the air under their own power and gave off an incredible
amount of light considering their size.
He tried to sit up but found he couldn't and looked down at his body. His
arms and legs were strapped to a table with a thin wire that didn't cut into
him but was so strong he was unable to budge. His head was free though and he
lifted it to get a better view of the room.
To his left was another table that sat empty. He couldn't tell for sure but
it seemed identical to his and looked to be made of steel but it felt more like
plastic against his bare skin. It was this feeling that made him finally
realize that he was totally nude. He wasn't sure why he hadn't noticed that
before and figured it must have been shock.
He turned his head to his right and all the breath in his body left him in
one big gasp. Norton lay on a table next to him. He too was nude but that was
the least of his worries. His abdomen had been opened and large flaps of skin
were draped over either side of the table. A smaller table next to him was
piled high with innards and his hands and feet and genitals had been removed
and placed on another smaller table. It was his face that was the worst though.
The top of his skull had been removed, obviously to reach the brain and Norton'
s eyes were wide open and his mouth frozen in a scream. He had been alive when
they started on him.
Randall lay there and stared at his friend and colleague and then heard a
door behind him open.
The End.
