"Kelnarok Far-"
"That’s not retired." I interrupted again. Kelnarok Farsha was the best
assassin that ever lived. But he was about fifty-six now. He retired last year
after his first failed attempt after thirty-nine years of solid success. But
before he retired he taught me everything he knew.
My employer sat in contemplation. He put his left hand on his chin was
looking down. He stayed in the position for a while then he looked up to me.
"Fine," He said handing me another pouch, "3,500 coins. But I expect you do
something extra on this next assignment."
"How much?" I asked.
"One million gold plus expenses."
I was very surprised; it would of made any normal man’s jaw drop. But I
could contain my emotions well enough. "So," I barely managed to say, "aside
from kidnapping a innocent half-dark elf prince," I said, "what else do you
want me to do? Kill his grandparents as well?" I added with a smile. Knowing
that he would never ask me to kill the King and Queen.
"Close, I want you to kill his mother and father."
I sat up and glared at him. "No, we went over this before; I will not
harm Lily in anyway. I will not kill her son, and I will not kill
Antarlas. Not unless he hurts her. Is there anything else I can do for you? No
reward would make me kill them."
"You’ll never be the best if you can’t get over foolish emotion. She left
you and the others for dead. Antarlas shouldn’t have been here anyway, and
their son will be king someday if Antarlas and Lily still refuse to be the
heirs to the throne."
"Look, if it weren’t for Lily I wouldn’t of been here anyway. She found me
and fed me her food. She gave me life. And if she loves Antarlas I guess
he can’t be that bad. And their son is half-Lily. From what I’ve been
told, he’ll make a great king someday."
"That’s my point. We can’t let him be king. Antarlas is one of those people
who would try to stop people like us. And his son is probably going to be no
different. We can’t run that risk."
"Listen, I was taught that you don’t have to worry if you can’t get caught.
And believe me. I won’t get caught. Besides, from what the stars tell
me, he won’t be king anyway. And I trust the stars more than I trust people. So
you can forget what I said before." On accession I read the stars for answers
of the future or present. I picked it up from a girlfriend-she was a
druid-right before I killed her for seeing another guy.
"But what about your guild? What do the stars say about that?" He asked.
"Not my guild. I’m just part of it. I have no say in what happens there."
"What about your way of life? Who will hire you? Where will you go for
specialized equipment and other illegal things that you can’t buy at a
general store?"
"I’ll have to make do with what I got. I don’t need magical arrows.
But they do make my job easier." I stood up and made my way toward the door to
leave. I opened it partly and looked back at the man. "And someone is always is
looking for a hired sword, assassination or otherwise. Besides, you know that I
do more than just kill. I got you the King’s scepter didn’t I? I’ll leave you
here to think of another job for me. You know where to find me." I started out
the door then quickly stopped and turned around to catch an arrow coming at my
head from a hole in the wall. Thank the gods for my magical gloves of catching
arrows. "Oh yea… Don’t try to kill me. I’m too valuable to you. And if I ever
hear of you trying to find someone else to hurt Lily or her family, I’ll come
back to kill you." Then I looked to one of the holes where people looked
through, "That goes for all of your hirelings in the walls, too." With that I
walked out the door.
