Remembering Forever (Book Excerpt) by Dallas G. Releford
Page 8 of 8 They moved to a little cottage on a ten-acre farm they had purchased outside of
Hustonville, Kentucky and opened a Veterinary business in the little farming
community caring for sick animals. On warm summer nights, they sat on the front
porch watching the stars, listening to the insects calling to them from the
darkness and talking over old times. Elizabeth and Mark had six children,
mostly all girls to add to Marks happiness. Rachel was part of the family and
needless to say, she and Mark and Elizabeth were happy with the arrangement
they had made so many years ago. Rachel never had children but she cared for
the smaller members of the family just like they were her own. There was never
a lack of love between the three to the end of their days. When Elizabeth
passed away after Mark had died from some disease he came into contact with
while caring for an old Mare, she was buried on a hill just above the little
house. There they both rested together, side by side for eternity. Rachel
visited the grave everyday and brought fresh flowers when she could and placed
them carefully on each grave. When she died at the age of 98, she too, was
buried by the two other people that she admired and loved the most in this
world.
Some people, who knew the three people that had lived in the little house on
the farm will tell you to this day that the graves have never had weeds or tall
grass growing on them. Someone had been taking care of the graves and it was as
if someone or something has been watching over them. On some dark moonless
nights, people say that you can still see all kinds of bright lights around the
graves. Some of them are kind of large and round and just hover over the hill
for a while before zooming off into the dark skies above. Some people avoid the
area altogether because they say the Spirit of the Forest will be angry
at anyone who disturbs the rest of the three people who now call it their
home.
Little did anyone on earth realize that evil never dies. Much like an
old soldier, it just fades away only to turn up again in some other place. The
evil that was created there in the early ?60's was only the beginning. The evil
created by the rogue corporations and the government would live on in the
forest, the streams and in almost every secluded part of the world until that
fateful day when they would be able to make their move. There was one force
that was keeping a close watch on the developments with a worried mind and a
troubled heart. This was the creature, human or whatever it was that rescued
Elizabeth in the forest that night; the spirit of the forest as many
would come to know it in the future. This sole being would live on for many
centuries to fight again when the time was right. IT would be aided by another
being that was not a normal human being (if there is such a thing) known as
Emily Keene, the fighting lady of the 25th century. But, then again, that's
another story, isn't it?
