They ran for some distance before stopping. Gasping Gabrielle asked, "Where did you guys come from?"

Donnor said, "After we lost you we wandered around awhile. It’s been hard going moving through this swamp. We were unable to find their trail. But as the sun set Frund had this feeling that you were off in this direction." He waved his arm vaguely rightward. "We followed his hunch and here we are."

Frund said, "It appears that we were led here."

She smiled, "You know something, I’ve had the feeling that I’ve been protected all along. Maybe there really is a god out there."

"Or maybe just a spirit that likes you."

"Whichever. It’s time for us to kill this place and get back on the job we’ve taken."

Donnor laughed, "You got that right."

The three ran into the swamp, moving by dead reckoning. They could here the sound of pursuit behind them. Gabrielle got a powerful pull toward her left. She pointed, "That way."

"You sure?"

The three moved into the dark. They soon found themselves moved along the bank of a large lake. Off to the left they spotted a huge hump lying placidly in the water. They prayed it would stay that was as they moved along the bank. Ahead they spotted a dense copse and quickly took cover inside it. Then they waited.

It didn’t take long. The troiks came carrying torches. Their noise was loud enough to wake the dead. In a matter of heartbeats the hump vanished into the water. Seconds later a massive head left the water and gulped down six of the troiks in one gulp. The rest screamed in terror and ran for their lives. Many didn’t make it.

The three friends laughed. Gabrielle said, "My angel really is doing well. Let’s get out of here before that thing comes back." They moved fast. By morning they were certain they had lost all pursuit. It took two days to leave the swamp, but upon reaching the edge they found themselves facing their destination. The temple was set in a depression with the swamp surrounding it on all sides. A path led from the entrance toward a point to their right. Though the distance was long no obstacles appeared to block their way.

Gabrielle sighed, ‘My friend whoever you are, I know you are a part of me. It seems you have decided to stand by me. It is only right if I stand by you. As long as we’re together there is nothing that will get in our way.’

She and her two friends descended the hill and entered into a new life beyond all their imaginings.
