Chapter 1: Late Night Investigating

Kristie Williams, a thin, brown-haired, blue eyed girl of seventeen; sat outside recounting the days events over, and over in her mind. It had been a normal day, like any other in the Williams household. Mrs. Williams was late for work again; she had spent an hour of her morning searching for her nurses' shoes. And Mr. Williams was sitting at the dining room table, drinking his coffee, and reading the Florida Times, not in any hurry to get to work.

While cleaning her brother Mike's bedroom later that morning, Kristie stumbled onto a very strange looking wand in his sock drawer, hidden under a pair of gray low cuts. Kristie examined it closely. It didn't surprise Kristie that Mike had something like that in his drawer; he had always been interested in magic tricks. But Kristie had never seen a wand like that sold in any magic trick shop she had been in (And that was saying something, for she had been in every trick shop in Jacksonville) The thing that caught Kristie's attention was not the strange carvings on the wand, it was the deep gash in the bottom of the wand, and something white just barely protruding out of it that caught Kristie's attention. Mike had never been known to damage any of his magician's equipment. The first cape he had gotten when he was six was mounted, and framed in a glass case above his dresser.

Fired by curiosity, Kristie hastily looked around the room trying to find something to pry the bottom of the wand off, messing up what she had just cleaned a few minutes before. She found a pocketknife in Mike's box of miscellaneous junk, and pried off the bottom of the wand. With a small thump, it fell to the ground, a piece of paper attached to it. Kristie read the words that were on the paper, not knowing at the time that it was an incantation, and was surrounded by a blast of wind, and swirling bright green color that brought her to her current location; Saffire City.

Saffire City is a small town surrounded by miles and miles of dark, mysterious forest. In the town are many magic shops, and wizarding boutiques. When Kristie arrived in Saffire City, she was found by two elves, Lance and Sam Martin. Lance Martin is a very thin elf, about three and a half feet tall, with blonde hair cut short to his big ears. Lance works for a wizard named Lawrence Drake; the most famous wizard in Saffire City according to Lance. Besides working for Lawrence Drake, Lance owns his own restaurant called The Grille Tavern on the south side of Saffire City.

Sam Martin, also and elf, and Lance's older brother, has long brown hair that just barely goes past his tiny shoulders. He also works for Lawrence Drake. And, like his brother, Sam owns his own business; a ranch in Waldrop, a place not far away from Saffire City, where he breeds, and sells exotic animals. The two elves had been walking down a deserted alley behind a shop when Kristie appeared out of mid air, and landed next to their feet, unconscious. The two elves took Kristie back to their house on Platt Avenue. It is a round, brick house, kind of like a big, brick hut.

When Kristie woke up, she noticed that she was no longer in her house. Then it came back to her, the wand, the swirling bright green color. A small, purple face leaned over her. "Are you okay miss?" The elf asked, his larger than normal eyes looking curiously at her. Kristie screamed, and jumped back.
