The Magic Of Elan (2 ratings) by Amanda Ryan
Page 2 of 7 "Who-who are you?" Kristie asked. Lance introduced himself, and his brother. He
explained how it was they found her, and where she was. It has been
nearly a whole day since Kristie arrived in Saffire City, but she still had
trouble believing that she could be in a magical city, full of wizards, and
elves (who wouldn't) still, Kristie sat on a curb staring up at the shimmering
sky, entranced by overwhelming thoughts. Something hit the ground with a
deafening bang, and Kristie snapped back to reality. She jumped to her feet,
heart pounding. She listened intently. There were voices chattering in hushed
tones around the corner. Kristie peered around the brick wall, and saw two men.
One was short and fat, and the other was quite the opposite. They were both
adorned in black cloaks that camouflaged them almost perfectly against the
night's darkness.
"Come on Larry!" called the tall man in a semi whispered voice. A third man
came running out of a magic shop called, Magical Things For Cheap,
clutching a brown paper bag in his left hand. He met up with the other two,
then they all quickly ran off into the nearby woods. Kristie stood there,
watching the figures getting smaller, debating on whether to follow them, and
see what they were up to, because whatever it was, Kristie felt that they were
up to no good. Feeling wide awake, and a bit curious, Kristie followed.
The forest was dark, and eerie, and crawling with animals that were just
beginning their day. After tripping over a possum like animal, Kristie stopped
to see where she was. Ten feet in front of her was an old black sign with white
lettering. The sign looked as though it had been there for years, but the paint
looked almost fresh. The lettering said,
Anybody from Saffire City will be executed if found on premises, by order of
Miss. Cydra Delaney.
Kristie no longer saw the three men, maybe it wasn't the best idea, but
Kristie kept walking. After what seemed like hours, Kristie's eyelids were
getting heavy, and her calves sore. Images of home, and of her family floated
into her mind. With a quick jerk, she woke up. Kristie stared at an enormous
building in front of her. Flying around towering turrets of the castle were
many birds. Kristie looked closer, and noticed that they weren't birds, they
were bats; thousands of them
Kristie began slowly crossing the rickety wooden bridge. She held tight to
the rope railing. With a snap, a weak board broke under her feet. Holding tight
to the ropes, doing the one thing that you shouldn't do in situation
like that, Kristie looked down. The water was churning furiously about fifty
feet below her. Holding the rope railing as tight as she could, she managed to
muster enough strength to pull herself up. She walked warily across the rest of
the bridge, and walked up to the stoop of the castle.
The large front doors were ajar, so she crept in. Kristie heard voices
coming from a few doors down the candle-lit hallway. Kristie saw the halfway
opened door, and crept down the hallway to peek through it. She saw the three
men, and a young looking woman, with black hair down to the small of her back.
That must be Cydra. Kristie thought to herself. The short man handed
Cydra the brown bag.
"Thank you Horace." Said Cydra. Horace Bowed. Cydra whispered something
to
the three, and sent them out of the room. Cydra stood there, a look of
complete contentment on her face. "Darlene won't stand a chance when my potion.
Just a few more ingredients, and Saffire City will be mine!" Cydra cackled,
then burst out into laughter that sent chills down Kristie's spine. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Amanda Ryan, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
