The Adventures of James and Kyle
A chronicle written by James Short and Kyle Webb
Chapter 1: The sacred weapons
Have you ever wondered, am I destined to change the world? Will the balance
of peace on earth ever lie in my hands? James and Kyle were two of these
people. They had many dreams, many thoughts on how things could be better. They
possessed no super powers, as many thought they did. They were successful in
everything they did, be it football, or pulling impossible pranks on people.
Good things always happened to them, and on an even better note, they had two
of the most wonderful, beautiful women as partners in life. Little did they
know, that in a few short days, their luck would change. In a few short days
they would be burdened with both a gift and a curse. The fate of the world
would soon be in their hands.
It was one of those days. A long hot summer day, where once the day started,
it never seemed to end. Kyle and James were having a party down at Snell Park,
a place where they often hung out, usually playing football with a group of
friends. Today wasn't much different, except for the fact that when football
was over, they were treated to two of the finest steaks they had ever had. Of
course the food was always good when their women cooked it. In Kyle's mind, the
events from a few days earlier were burning a hole in his head.
A few days earlier, Kyle and James had went to a new jewelry store in town.
Being it was closing in on their anniversaries, they wanted to get something
nice for the ladies. The store, brightly lit on the outside, even in the
summer's bright sunlight, seemed to change as you entered. It looked very dark
and dank, much like the mafia could inhabit this spot and make deals about
killing Jimmy the Rat. It took what seemed like hours, but they decided on two
different necklaces. Though they looked similar, on one necklace, the diamond
was in the shape of what seemed like a sword, and on the other, a fist. But
being as they were also kind of in the doghouse for ignoring them to go play
football, they figured this would help their cause. Being as they found what
the wanted, they approached the counter.
The old man was rather ancient. His eyes very dull. Long silver hair flowed
from his head and down his back, and his beard was full of gray. He looked as
though he had been through all things in life, and was a prophet. He had
noticed Kyle and James as they walked in. He was aware of who they were, and
what their purpose would be. He just hoped that with doom approaching, there
was time for the journey. Time to save the world from what would become of
it.
When Kyle and James came to the counter, the old man did scare them at
first, with his rather old and gangly appearance. But yet deep inside
themselves, they knew what this man would say to them. They felt the burden to
be put upon them.
First the old man looked at them, with rather lively eyes, as though this
man had just been saved from certain death. As Kyle and James reached for their
money, the man kindly told them not to bother, for the necklaces they picked
were destined to be around someone’s neck that was close to each one of
them. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Edmundo Santiago, sffworld.com. All rights reserved. No part of this may be reproduced or reprinted without permission in writing from the author.
