Ties and Bonds chapter 1 (power) by Saria
Page 2 of 4 Ever since we was little. After his mother was slaughtered for prostitution
in the streets of Glabenbrook, the only way he could have food, a mage war
broke out. The war between the wizards started from a small fight between a few
guilds. They argued about certain prophecies, and what they meant.
Queeble didn’t care much about magic, since it was banned from usage. When
he was younger he was taught many spells. He can recall them, the teachings,
but to put them to use would be sentencing himself to death. He would rather
use his mace than die from silly magic. His mother had told him he had a gift
for magic, that it seemed as though he had it bred into him. She would wink
every time she said that. He never really thought about it. She always made him
feel good. He figured that it was just one of those things that she was saying
to raise his spirit.
He walked through the streets of Glabenbrook; their eyes always watched him.
Not only were non-humans rarely seen in this town, but also people tended to
hate them. Queeble was one of the few non-humans that didn’t fear the humans of
this town. His mother was a Gnome, same as he, but his real father had left
after a few years of his life, and his mother found a nice Halfling man who was
interested in her. They lived together for a rather long time then the fire
took him. His mother had told him, when she had found Verdin, to never fear one
of another race simply because they were of that race. He always kept that in
mind when he walked through the streets of Glabenbrook. Although, he knew that
all these people were probably not as kind hearted as himself. Queeble felt
that it didn’t matter that if he treated people accordingly he would get what
he deserved. Be it good or bad.
Queeble passed the "High-life" inn. That was the place where only the rich
visitors of this town stayed. Everyone here couldn’t afford it if they wanted
to. Queeble wondered how that place was even still in business.
Going through the arches that were over the bridge leading to the guild
Queeble belonged to. He had joined the guild when he was left alone. He had
come into Glabenbrook that night to find his mother, and found her lying
sprawled out on the street side dead. When he reached her, there was a man
standing there. At least, Queeble had thought he was a man. The man was covered
with hair, red hair, and stood at about seven feet. He towered over Queeble,
and told him not to be scared. He explained that he had saw what happened to
his mother and the cat like man asked if he was alone. When Queeble answered,
"yes". He said come with me; I will take care of you. Shadow-Jumper had told
him that he to was on his own, and had a guild started. When Queeble had joined
the thieves’ guild he had someplace to be, someplace he belonged. He fit right
in, and learned right away that he was the only one with any magical talent.
Queeble hid his magical ability and asked Shadow-Jumper to teach him how to use
a mace. When Shadow-Jumper said he couldn’t he had one of Shadow-Jumper’s men
teach him? Therefore, he was proficient with a mace, and still held his magical
ability away for a last option. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Saria, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
