The tiger sighed. "I have nothing to live for. But so you will understand, I will tell you my story. My friend, Robel, and I were playing as we often do by this very cliff. We would chase each other up and down this pathway. He was close behind me, when I decided to escape by hoping down onto the narrow ledge beneath the waterfall. When he tried to follow me, he slipped, and clung for his life to the ledge. I rushed over to help him, but a rock he had dislodged in his fall knocked him from the ledge and he fell to his death. I could only look on helplessly. My clan rejected me when I came home and told them what had happened. I was an outcast. I could take it no longer, so I ran as far as I could from my home. I came across an animal, just like you, and in my rage I slew it. I was empty, I had nothing left. So I simply ran here, planning to throw myself off the cliff and end my suffering forever. Then I ran into you. What is your story?"

The man thought over the tiger's story, then replied with his, "I was a hunter. I was brought up to hunt tigers. I had spent my entire life hunting tigers, never questioning why, until a dying mother trying to protect her children was shot by a cold-hearted hunter. Then, I could no longer kill tigers. I found the mother's cubs, and escaped with them, pursued by my fellow hunters. Now I had become the prey. I came across the very same hunter I had encountered earlier, and I too killed someone in my rage. It seems we are both on the run. Why don?t we run together? We could live happily, deep within the heart of the jungle. No one would ever disturb us."

This thought was very pleasing to the tiger. A ray of hope seemed to pierce through. Then suddenly one of the tiger cubs leapt out of Yug's hands and ran to the edge of the cliff.

Andre screamed, "No! Not again! Not ever again!"

All sanity left him, as he backed up against the edge of the cliff. He kept seeing Robel falling to his death over and over in his mind. Yug tried to reason with him, but he kept shaking his head and whispering over and over, "I'm sorry, it was an accident."

Yug watched in horror as Andre threw himself over the side of the cliff and listened as Andre screamed as he fell. Yug quickly gathered up the cubs and tried to get them as far away from this spot as possible. Perhaps the tiger had been too far gone to come with him. It no longer mattered. He would try to raise the cubs himself, in the safety of the deep jungle. Perhaps he could establish a purpose in his life after all. The crying tiger tried to end his problems. Yug decided to conquer them. They both had spiraled into anger, fear, and aggression, yet only one of them managed to retain their sanity.
