A Time for Mourning (1 rating) by Templar
Page 3 of 3 Lindoryn couldn’t believe it. Mother? This cant be true. "This cant be
happening," she stammers out, tears starting to form in her eyes. "Do..Do you
know if there were any survivors?" Her voice all broken and showing the signs
of her breaking into a cry imminently.
"There were no immediate survivors, but those reports are very sketchy," the
town patrol officer replied "We sent out scouts last night to see the damage,
they should be back within the hour." As the patrol officer left the room, the
King Mayor asked the rest of the council to leave the room so he could talk to
them in private.
" I know that this is a hard time for you, but we should just hope for the
best." As the King Mayor was just about to leave the room, there was a loud
knock at the door. The mayor replied and in came the scout captain and a guard.
"Any news of the missing caravan?" questioned the Mayor, as he gave the
captain a seat.
"Well sir, as we arrived at the location of where the missing caravan should
have been, we saw four dead bodies…guards. It looks like some sort of animal or
creature. Two of the guards were missing their heads, while another was missing
a leg, and the third one was missing his lower torso."
"By the gods!" whispered out the mayor "what could have done this…there is
no creature in this region that could have done this."
As the mayor and captain continued to talk, Felsem was holding Lindoryn,
preparing for the worst. Eventually he got up and asked the captain "What about
the caravan?"
The captain stopped for a moment before continuing. "There was a trail
leading off into the small brush off the road. We followed it and found the
rest of the caravan, in the standard circle defensive position…"
"Were there any survivors!" Feslem shouted out "Did you see any people who
were a part of the caravan?"
"We did, and I’m terribly sorry, but everyone was dead, there were no
survivors."
The captain, being well respected for his fighting in the War of the houses,
and his scouting before the battle of Icewind Dale, knew everybody in the town
of Silvanesti. He remembered everyone’s name, and what they looked
like.
"What about my wife, was she there?" asked Felsem, tears now rolling down
his face, being comforted by Lindoryn who is also starting to cry.
"I don’t know how to say this but.." he paused and took a deep breath and
slowly continued, "I saw what was left of her, and it wasn’t good. I’m sorry
Felsem but there’s nothing I could have done."
By this time, both Lindoryn and Felsem were in tears, the room filled with
silence, except for the shouting and complaining outside in the reception
area.
