Eden's Gate by Kyle Timmerman
Page 3 of 3 The levels that make up play, games, the celebration of the human body
through competition are vast, broad, and much deeper than they appear. It's
really quite grand."
"I don't quite follow the logic behind your argument, or if you have even
made one. So why are you advertently missing and rushing forth the end of all?
I'm confused."
"Perfect! Confusion! Vague logic! You're quicker than you look! It took us
much longer to reach that understanding."
"No. No! I don't understand any of this!"
"Exactly! This is all very exciting you see. Now, we really must get back to
our game. You know, separate the winners from the losers, the bodies from the
minds, the minds from the bodies. Thanks so much for stopping by."
Thump, thump, swish

The next thing I remember I was back in the hallway traversing eons and
galaxies and doorways with a dull ache residing in the place that a head had
once occupied. Had I failed? Had I succeeded? Was everything going to
continue?
I pondered these questions as I approached Eden's Gate. Unsteadily, I pushed
the Gate open.
"Well?" asked the Doorman. "Did you succeed? Is your delightful futility
preserved?"
"I. . .I don't know. It was all so strange. The clear became cloudy; logic,
illogic. I became confused. . .I simply left."
"You don't think that you are the only one who can meddle with Eden, do
you?" the Doorman hissed. "Promethius introduced fire to the threads of
reality, you brought them sin, futility, and despair. I merely gave them this .
. . ."
I looked to the ground as a red book entitled "Philosophy of Sport and the
Human Body" landed in a cloud of dust and loose pages.
With a gleam in his countenance and what I perceived as a greasy smile, the
Doorman beamed, ". . .hardbound confusion."
Thump, thump, CLANG. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
