Early in the year 1316, deep within the mountains of Europe lived a tribe of
people known as the Orcans. With a small village of only nine hundred people it
was set at the foot of a massive mountain range, the tribe claimed the
mountains theirs. For nine hundred years the tribe inhabited the region and
fought off the intruders who occaisonally tried to push the Orcans away.
Determined and courageous they fought off patrols from neighbouring
civilizations and rogue thieves and bandits. The mountains were there number
one resource for food, water and minerals. An enormous water fall supplied them
with fresh water, the lake at the bottom would draw animals from the land which
would be ambushed, killed and used for food and clothing. Higher up in the
mountain laid mines containing ore. Trees were plentiful around the mountains
so you could see why the Orcans wanted to keep this region. Even though they
fought off neighbours there was still another intruder that menaced the village
and its location.
The Orcans reffered to them as "The Mist". Only a few people witnessed the
mist, but because of the high number of sightings people began to believe they
were true. The ancestors of the Orcans would tell stories about the mist, the
mystical creatures that inhabited the mountains.
The earliest sighting was just after the settlement of the Orcans, a young
boy fetching water from the lake claimed that he saw a creature like that of a
horse. All white as snow with a golden horn petruding from the middle of his
head. The boy was said to be crazy until a few more people sighted it, it was
named, "Unicorn". Many Orcans still denied the existence other than
story-tellers.
The sighting of the next creature was made by a family of gypsies who joined
the Orcans, they claimed to have preminitions of a bird, made up of snow, ice
and crystal that appears to doomed mountain travellers. They saw the bird
staring into the eyes of an Orcan man who disappeared in the mountains a week
before. The gypsies named the creature "Icetal". A strange and akward name, but
coming from gypsies.
Many other creatures have been sighted and named, so the mystery of the mist
had begun and a series of rumours spread of the story of the mist. Parents
would tell their children stories of the mist. Children would be scared and
intrigued by the existence. People accepted that they would not harm the
village people so they wouldn't needed be hunt down and killed. However very
soon Orcans began to disappear and mutilated bodies were found in the outskirts
of the village. Orcan council suspected the existens of the mist would be the
reason. So they assembled a team of fierce warriors to search the mountain and
exterminate any suspicous looking creature. The team consisted of seven men,
four strong brave soldiers, a man who studied the the mist since a young age,
an archer and a young boy.
The Four soldiers, Micallef, Kiev, Daniel and Cordon were brave soldiers who
fought in local battles for some neighbours as tribute. Micallef the leader of
the group was a strong short man with grey hair he appeared to be the age of
fourty. He did not believe in the existence of the mist but went for the
adventure anyway. Kiev was a mountain of man himself, seven feet tall and built
like a castle wall, he was indifferent to the existence of the mist but looked
forward to killing something. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Bone Tyler, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
