Arrow of the Mind (5 ratings) by Jon Ulf
Page 2 of 3 Uriah knew this man was lying, and had taken him for a
simple student. But Uriah was far from simple. He
began to gather his energy, in preparation for an
attack. He could feel the strength of Aaron, and he
was strong, much stronger then any of his teachers.
Uriah had been told that his potential was the
greatest seen in thousands of years. If he played his
cards right, Uriah could make short work of Aaron.
"I very highly suggest not doing tha-"; he was cut
short when Uriah launched a barrage of attacks. If
Uriah could get him on the defensive he would be able
to win.
But when his attacks hit the enemy, they simply
disappeared. Uriah was astonished, for they just
vanished when they touched him. At that moment Uriah
knew he was dead. For now he could truly feel this
mans power, and it was unimaginable.
Still utterly calm, Aaron shook his head. "So sad
that I will have to kill one of such power. We would
have had many uses for one such as you."
Astonishment turned to white-hot rage; "I would have
never joined you!" yelled Uriah. At the same moment
he doubled his efforts to kill this man. But just as
easily Aaron defeated his attacks. Uriah used every
trick he knew, but still nothing touched the man.
"I grow weary of this. Prepare to die young one,"
Aaron said in that all too calm voice.
Suddenly Uriah could no longer hold on to Magic. It
was as if it had been torn away from him. Like some
part of him was suddenly gone.
Then there was pain.
Uriah let out a scream; it was the scream of a man
feeling what no human should be able to bear. It felt
as though there were millions of knifes sliding across
his brain. His skin was burning like the hottest fire
in the world. Every breath seared his lungs. His
insides felt as though they should burst any second.
He was being squeezed into a single point.
There was a bright flash. And the pain was gone. All
he could see was white.
Then a voice came to him. A voice like the sounds of
rushing waters, "Not yet Great One, your time to be
with me is not at hand."
Finding himself utterly calm Uriah asked, "Who are
you?"
"I am all and I am nothing. I am the beginning and I
am the end. I am what is and what cannot be. I am
the one."
"What is your name." Asked Uriah.
"I am called nothing."
"I don't understand."
"You will in time Great One. But now, you have a
destiny to fulfill. For what is to lie ahead will be
the greatest challenge your world has ever faced. I
shall make you my Avatar. And you shall save my
people."
When the voice mad an end of speaking, Uriah felt
knowledge flow into his mind. What he could never
have imagined possible, seemed common place to him.
He could bend time and space. Right what had once
gone wrong. He knew all that was, except for the
mysterious being that had talked to him.
Then Uriah's vision began to return. He saw Aaron
stagger back, with a look of wonder and perplexity on
his face.
"Impossible!" screamed Aaron. "You have cut my link
with Magic. You shall pay dearly boy!"
Aaron waved his hand, and the soldiers that had been
watching the confrontation charged at Uriah.
Uriah felt nothing but utterly calm. He raised his
hand, fingers upward, and palm outward, and said,
"Stop."
The soldiers froze in their tracks.
A look of outrage crossed Aaron's face. "You fools!
Attack him!" he screamed.
The soldiers hesitated, then resumed with their
charge. Shaking his head, Uriah bent the space around
the soldiers and folded them into non-existence.
For the second time, Aaron screamed, "IMPOSSIBLE!"
Uriah knew who Aaron truly was. He was the greatest
of the Irian Spell Weavers. The one that everyone
called 'the Black One'. His powers were of the
darkest kind, taken from the Lord of Darkness himself,
the Nameless One. The source of all evil in the
universe. It was rumored that Aaron had bargained
with the Great Evil God in flesh. There was not a
being alive that could equal Aaron in power. But
Uriah found himself irritated by this man.
In a voice of booming thunder Uriah commanded, "Be
gone Black One, your time on this world is at an end.
No longer will you do you masters biding."Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Jon Ulf, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
