JD was pumping gas into his ’56 Ford pickup when Freddy called out in his funny high pitched voice. "Hey JD, have ya talked with your Mom this mornin’ ?"

JD released the handle pumping gas for a moment, and peered around the big old rusty pump. It was at that point he realized that Freddy could be mixed in with a million people, and his voice would be a dead giveaway to his identity. "No, why?"

"Well, she called a few minutes fore you got here. Told me that it was important that she spoke with ya before you flew into Cameron with Harold."

JD started scratching his head. Now this was a real bone shocker. How in the blue blazes did she know he was going to Cameron? Harold just got his plane back from being worked on, and was dying to fly somewhere. So, he suggested that Kyle, Eric, and himself fly to Cameron for the opening of the new Las Vegas style casino. But how in the blue blazes could she know this? This was just decided yesterday evening, and that hardly left anytime for her to find out. Not unless… one of the guys told her. That must be it, one of the guys told her. Kind of like, lets get JD. A laugh between the guys, but unfortunately he was going to have to pay the piper. His mom certainly didn’t like casinos, and all of the guys knew that. The ‘devils workshop’ is how she referred to those types of places. Now he was going to get an ear full, and all of his friends would be splitting a jut laughing. Well, as the saying goes, what goes around, comes around. And if it didn’t, somehow he would figure a way to get even.

JD just smiled to himself and shook his head, "Anything else?"

"Nope, she hung up after that."

"Thanks Freddy, I’ll swing by her place when I finish pumping the gas. By the way, you got the time?"

"Yea, it’s exactly 10:02. I had to set the time by the radio this morning. Use to set it by Johnson’s rooster, then somebody shot it."

Laughing, Freddy turned and started walking back to the garage.

"Hey Freddy, one more thing",

Freddy stopped, turned his head, and gave him the "what now" look.

"The five dollars I owe you for this gas, can we put it on my tab?"

Freddy smiled, "Why don’t you get a credit card like everyone else?"

"Cause I don’t want to be like everyone else."

Both men laughed while JD got back into his pickup and started it up.

Shaking his finger at him, Freddy called out, "Don’t forget to get a hold of your Mom!"

"I won’t" replied JD, as he drove off towards his mom’s house.

As JD was pulling into his Mom’s driveway, he saw his older brother Paul walking out the front door.

"Hey Paul, Mom home?"

Paul shook his head. "No, you lookin’ for her too?"

JD reached down and turned the key to the truck off.

"Well kind of. I went by Freddy’s this morning to get gas, he said she called and wanted to talk with me. So I thought…"

Paul interrupted "I got the same kind of call. She said she had to speak with you before you flew down to Cameron with Harold. I asked her what it was all about, and she hung up. Well, that didn’t sound like Mom so I thought I would come over… and… well, here I am."

Paul was right, that didn’t sound like Mom.
