Page 2 of 9 I’ll get something on the way."
Before she could respond, she heard the door slam, as John moved quickly out
of the house.
Marsha walked into the front room, fell back on the divan, and started
wondering what she was going to do with that breakfast she had just cooked.
While she was sitting there thinking, it all of a sudden struck her; this is
the way it should be, nice and quiet. John hadn’t always been like this.
Several years ago, he was a kind and caring man. No yelling or running out of
the house without eating breakfast. But, after he was promoted to the Cutting
Manager, his personality seemed change. He began treating her as if she was one
of the workers, yelling and demanding instead of talking and caring. She wanted
to talk with him about this new attitude, but whenever she tried, he would get
mad and leave. It seemed, everything was always her fault, and that was what
needed to change.
While Marsha was lounging on the divan, the phone rang. She leaned over and
picked it up.
"Hello."
A nice young voice on the other end said, "Is this Marsha Simms?"
"Yes it is, how may I help you?"
"My name is Tracy Shaw and I’m with Mountain View Timeshare. Have you heard
of us?"
Marsha had never heard of this company, but she was aware of what
timesharing was, or at least she thought she was.
"No, I’m not familiar with your company, how can I help you."
"I’ve called to invite you and your husband to stay at our resort for two
days. Your stay would be all-inclusive, meaning that we would furnish
everything, including all of your meals and drinks. The only thing we ask is
that sometime during your stay, we could have two hours of your time, to share
with you what Mountain View has to offer. There would be no high-pressure sales
of any kind, and of course, you would be welcome to leave at anytime. To show
our appreciation for coming out and letting us take up your time, we will give
you a very nice 19 inch color TV."
Marsha thought about this; John didn’t like timeshare companies. He said
they were all sales mongers trying to line their pockets with your money. If
she made the appointment, John might get mad and…
"Mrs. Simms, are you still there?"
"Yes, I’m here, but I don’t…"
Tracy interrupted. "Mrs. Simms did I mention that we have an olympic size
swimming pool, sauna bath, hot tub, full exercise room, and a special garden
where couples, such as yourself, can stroll about and take time to reflect on
personal matters. This could be a chance of a lifetime, without any strings.
You and Mr. Simms would come up here for two days and leave with a 19 inch
color TV, and maybe even a renewed relationship."
Marsha liked the idea of the renewed relationship. "Do we have to buy
anything?"
"Goodness sakes no. This company does all of its advertising through word of
mouth referrals. If we upset you in anyway, we are only hurting our own
image."
Marsha thought to herself; this makes a lot of sense. I would have John
trapped. I could talk to him about his attitude and he would have nowhere to
run. He might get upset about what I’m saying, but at least I would be able to
put it on the table and let him know how I feel. Plus, when we leave, we would
end up with a brand new color TV.
"Tracy, let me be honest. I would like to come up, but my husband doesn’t
like these sort of things. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Randy Veach, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
