Wynds stared around sullenly. How ? How in the Light? All around lay charred and ashen corpses. Smoking and dismembered was what the luckiest had gotten. And amidst it all he was the only one left untouched.

"HaHa!Hahahahahaha!" He shrieked a weeping and hoarsley laugh. This was not the laugh of joy but of the cruel irony of the world, he had lived. With the way his life was going he didn't even want to. Better to have killed him rather than a hundred others who had reason to remain alive. Wynds felt that tugging on his soul again. No time for mourning over the weak. Shrouded in self pity drifts of heated smoke headed northeast guiding him to the boy. The North wind blew. And Wynds slowly walked the path he had been given, fading into the recessess of his mind.

Chapter 3

Messias studied the hard man carefully. The Saldayan High General was of average height and weight by Saldayan standards, which meant he stood a good six inches taller than anyone else in the camp. He was clean shaven and well-spoken, a dignified yet down to earth person. A trusted advisor, a trusted friend, but these days there were some things Messias couldn't entrust to anybody. He had the look of a man who had seen too much, and he had. So much experience, fighting so many battles perhaps he could help Messias fight a battle of his own? Fool boy, nothing can stop your visions you should know that.

"I humbly ask that we cross the Jeharinin border, my Lord. King Mehanis is very likely to send troops against us, and as you said, it is of the utmost urgency that we get to Jaridia. Also...," Ingtar hesitated," I reported earlier on the matter of our scouts dissapearence my Lord,,, I think... I feel that it's very important that we leave or something bad will come to you." Clearing his throat he regained his usual mannerisms," But nevermind that, it's just a hunch... still... I think we should leave."

" No we will stay here for now, Ingtar."

The man raise an eyebrow, something that Saldayans rarely did, but Messias couldn't explain his reasons for staying.

Ingtar did not need to know about his latest Foresight, the Foreseeing in which a shadow took his life. Dying didn't disturb him so much as the Foresight had. They were always like twisted nightmares- these visions he had. He had been with the Aran' Car, Verin when it had occurred.

" Messias, the Tower is not to be trifled with," the quiet Aran' car had said assertively.

" Do you think that in five mellenia of existence the Tower hasn't come up against opposition?"

" I suppose your going to say it has." Messias replied.

" Yes, and do you know how it's survived?"

" I suppose your going to tell me that as well?"

" Child sarcasm is like a blemish on your mouth, and if you dont clean it off I'm going to wash it with soap. Of couse you want to earn our respect, correct? Then learn how to adress an Aran'car properly."

Thwack! Messias felt a slab of air hit his cheek.

" You have no idea of the egotism you posess, that shall be your..."

She continued her drilling as soon as she finished a long scolding. After hearing a mouthful from her, Messias was sorry he had even said anything. He wondered if they taught classes on that trick at the Tower and how he could get them to stop.

"...Messias....Messias are you listening?"

"Wha- oh, yes!"

She grinned at him," Good, I would hate to have to clean your ears out like we did your mouth."

Messias didn't even want to think about how she would go about doing that, he decided he should be more attentive, who knows he might even learn something the other Aran'car hadn't told him five times already.

" Despite what the history books say Messias, the Tower has been challenged on more than one occassion and on more than one occassion been defeated."

" Defeated?!?"

This truly was news.

" Oh I see, the other Aran'car have not told you. Not many know, even of us. This history is kept secret in... shall we say in certain areas of the Tower... most are strictly forbidden from them."

" How is it that you have access," Messias almost forgot the necessary, " Aran'car?"
