Allegory (Book Excerpt) by Tony Vogiantzis
Page 3 of 6 Yet, I do not even know who I am let alone how I arrived here, or if this is
a figment of my imagination. No time to delay-I must escape to find answers to
my questions.
From a distance I see a Nazi knight who has spotted me; I
stare at him as he begins to open fire. I fall to my knees for safety. As I
fall, I see a shadow reflecting from the sun, one of a sword in a thrusting
motion towards my head. Turning to my right side, the swords brushes my neck;
as I hit the ground the Nazi knight leaps onto me and begins to force the sword
towards my pupil. The sword is pushing closer to my eye; I can’t hold it much
longer. "Ah, come on hold on," I say. Then I pull the sword aside and punch it
out of his hand. He pulls out a dagger and throws it at me; I quickly turn to
my left side as the sword hits a tree directly behind me. The Nazi knight pulls
out another sword from behind his back and lunges towards me. "Ah, my arm," I
say in great agony. My left arm is lacerated badly; the wound stings and I am
bleeding extensively. He swings again and misses, and with all my might I knock
the sword out of his hand with a leg kick. I hit him as hard as I can, but he
seems unfazed. From abroad I see the Nazi knights opening fire in my direction.
I quickly grab the knight and shield myself behind him; the gunshots hit him,
killing the knight instantly. I am covered in blood from my wound. I take
shelter in the pond as the bullets brush just pass me through the water.
Leaping out of the pond I run desperately towards the hills. A flying axe
swirls at my head; it is from a Communist dwarf. I maneuver as the axe impales
itself into the oak tree that stood a slight two feet away from me.
Running now into the forest, still bleeding quite badly, large
quantities of blood seep from my body by the second. I see the Communist dwarf
behind me. The dwarf is gaining ground, closer, closer, closer; my endurance is
depleting and I cannot run anymore. I am absolutely exhausted as I collapse to
the ground. The dwarf stands above me as if he were on a pedestal; he smiles as
if to say, "Your destiny lies solely in my hands." But then the dwarf
collapses; he has been shot by the Nazi knights behind him, so self-indulged
that his ego ultimately led to his demise. The Nazi knights inevitably open
fire, and with all of my remaining strength I begin to once again run for my
life.
Through the forest I look around; strange sounds haunt me,
sounds of crickets and owls shouting at me, and I feel cold. I look for refuge
to make myself obscure from the knights. I lay myself gently down in a field of
violet-colored flowers. They are about four feet in height. I hide myself. The
knights organize themselves neatly into a circle. The one knight dressed as the
ace of spades speaks with an authoritative tone. "You four men check the field;
the others will come with me and secure the rest of the area. Make sure the
stranger does not escape. Hail Hitler." Copyright© 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 Tony Vogiantzis, sffworld.com. All rights reserved. No part of this may be reproduced or reprinted without permission in writing from the author.
