A Special Winged Warrior and the Heavenly Hosts and Nurses
Story
In honor of the victims in New York City and Washington D.C.
A Short Story by Micah Watkins
Samantha sat in her quiet room and listened to the clock
ticking away. It was 7 o'clock in the morning. Her show was on, so she put down
her pencil and turned on the TV. She watched, smiling as her show slowly
appeared on the old television screen.
8 o'clock rolled by, and she switched to another program.
Around nine thirty, the image on the screen changed to images of the New York
World Trade Center, the north tower burning, the top of it engulfed in smoke.
"The World Trade Center has just been hit by a plane." The reporter said.
Rebecca entered Samantha's office, as the 81-year-old woman
picked up the remote to turn up the TV. Samantha was paying more attention to
the screen, than to anything else.
Rebecca stopped to watch the screen. Suddenly, without
warning, a second plane slammed into the second tower. "Oh, my gosh!" Samantha
exclaimed, looking away quickly.
"Holy smokes! Oh my gosh!" Rebecca said as her jaw dropped
open. Samantha quickly fumbled with the intercom button. She pushed it, and
spoke to the entire hospital.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please listen to this announcement. At
a little after 9 o'clock our time, I discovered that a plane had slammed into
the World Trade Center in New York City. I urge all of you to turn on the TV's
and watch as history unfolds before us."
Soon reports of the Pentagon being hit by a third plane
started to coming in. The whole hospital watched on in horror.
At the Grey Mansion, just outside of Nashville, the kids sat
in front of the big screen television, basically forced to watch the event. Two
of the three adult dragons, Jeremy and Jennifer, stood in awe and fear as the
watched the TV.
Eggs and bacon were forgotten, but the stove was turned off.
Messes were left until later. Sherry Thong and Sanctity Helena wept into each
other s shoulders. The rest of Sherry s family just watched in terror and
awe.
Suddenly, the South Tower collapsed, right before the eyes of
America. At the NMC, Samantha's voice came over the speakers again. "Do to the
collapses of the South Tower of the World Trade Center, the Nashville Medical
Center is officially in a state of emergency. All non-essential tasks and
patients are to be sent to another hospital. Anyone who is affected by this
event, so much that they are not able to work, are allowed to return home.
Wages will be tripled, and those going home will be paid five times the normal
amount. Thank you." She announced.
Half the staff went home, most of them in tears. A special bus
was loaded with those unable to drive, and it took them home.
Finally, the North Tower collapsed, sending 110 stories of
debris crashing to the ground. Samantha picked up the phone and called the news
station. "This is Samantha Helena, owner of the Nashville Medical Center. I
would just like to say that we are in a state of emergency, and are willing to
take casualties, or help out in away with this event." She told the person on
the other line.
She waited a moment the hung up the phone, pressing the button
for the intercom again. "This hospital is now a giant blood bank. Please
prepare for this. Thank you." With this the hospital was instantly alive with
activity as it prepared to take blood from those who wanted to give. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Micah Watkins, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
