Woman' s Eye View

Jennifer Hoth

An Excerpt from Perspectives on Love

By Micah Watkins

"Mommy, tell us a story." One of the little dragons asked of it' s mother, Jennifer, as its siblings all huddled in to listen.

"But it's ten o' clock at night, you won' t remember a thing unless it's a scary story." Jennifer told them.

But, we really want to hear a story. A small voice echoed inside Jennifer' s head, as Faith, the youngest joined in. Faith was a mute dragon, and had no voice box, so she used her telepathic abilities to talk to the people she needed to.

Jennifer's husband, Jeremiah, was lying beside her in the bed. "I think we'd better tell them a story, babe. I mean, when Faith insists, it's usually 'read us a story or else." The black male dragon told his lovely white wife.

"But, I'm all out of stories to tell them. We've exhausted all our supply." Jennifer replied.

"Why don't you tell them the story of how you two met and fell in love and got married?" Jennifer's adopted mother, Rebecca suggested, entering the room.

"Or the story of how Rebecca ended up with you as a daughter." Jeremy added.

"That's not much of a story though, and besides, I've told them that one individually a million times. I think I'm going to go with the love story." Jennifer put in her decision.

"But how to get around all the more& adult parts?" Jeremy wondered.

"Okay, you get to tell those parts." Jennifer volunteered her husband.

"Huh, what?" He asked, missing the statement.

"Never mind. Lets get on with the story. Author person, you can switch to that story anytime now." Jennifer said.

"I hate lengthy flashbacks." Jeremy shuddered.

"We all hate any kind of flashback, but I don't really care at this particular moment." Jennifer almost snapped.

"Sorry."

It all started way back when your dad and I had just started kindergarten and Samantha was teaching us. I was scared a little bit, but very nervous. I knew Jeremy, because the same people had babysat us, but that's the only kid in knew in that whole class. And I was very scared. I really didn't know what to do.

There was group of kids in class that seemed to be really cool. They were spoiled and had a bunch of stuff, which their parents gave them to take to school on the first day. My mom was rich, too, but she really didn't believe in showing it off. They said that I could join their group if I would be their head bully, thinking, of course, that I couldn't hit a fly, because I was girl & still am a girl.

I was young and naive and stupid and just wanted friends, and I really didn't care who or how. "Who do you want me to hit first?" I asked.

"How about that little geek over there, by the teacher." The biggest of the group asked, pointing straight at Jeremy.

I knew my mom would kill me if I did it. I knew that Samantha would kill me if I did it, but I wanted to make friends. I really didn't want to hurt him too much, so, I marched over to Jeremy and said "Hi, Jeremy."

"Hi, Jennifer." He answered back with a smile.

WHACK! My fist came down hard, but not my hardest on his chin, knocking him to the ground. Jeremy just started balling and waling so loud, the teachers from the other side of the building were asking what the heck was going on.

Samantha, who wasn't really watching Jeremy at that moment, looked down just in time to see me hit him once more in the leg for good measure, leaving a big purple bruise on his chin and leg for the next six weeks.
