Woman's Eye View by Micah Watkins
Page 2 of 8 Samantha's normally kind, sweet and motherly composer suddenly
changed, and she became a snarling beast. "Jennifer Rossette Gray, get away
from Jeremy and into the corner immediately or else your bottom is going to be
more purple than his leg." She bellowed, and I knew I was in so much trouble
that I would be better off failing.
Of course, I wasn't dumb enough to disobey Samantha, plus
being scared out of my mind of her at that moment, I was in the corner so fast
there are still marks in the carpet.
Samantha quickly picked up Jeremy and began to rock him and
soothe him. He finally cried himself to sleep eventually. Samantha then picked
up the phone and called the police department, where my mom worked. "Hello, is
Rebecca Gray there?" Samantha asked.
There was a short silence on the phone as the person on the
other side spoke. "Thanks." Samantha said, as I knew my mother picked up the
phone on her end.
"I'm so dead." I must have said out loud, because one of the
other kids spoke up.
"You seem alive to me." The little girl said.
"I am in a lot of trouble." I told her as I listened to what
Samantha was saying.
"Hey, Rebecca, this is Samantha ... I'm okay, how about you
... That's always good to hear ... I was just calling to inform you that
Jennifer hit Jeremy twice I believe today. I only saw her hit him in the leg
when he was down, with a huge bruise forming rapidly on his chin." Samantha
reported, and then she suddenly held the phone at arms length as I could even
hear my mom yelling.
"What?!? Why the heck would Jennifer do that? She is a dead
little girl! She is so dead; she'll be better off failing all of school period!
Jennifer, I am so mad at you! I know you can here me! You better not repeat
this, or else you won?t get any presents this year period!" Came the clear
voice of my mother other the phone.
Samantha cautiously put the receiver back to her ear, as
Jeremy suddenly awoke, and began crying again.
"Are you done?? Good, because you woke up Jeremy and I just
got him to go to sleep and to be quiet. I want you to get down here to the
school and pick up Jennifer. And call Melyssa to pick up Jeremy." Samantha
shouted over Jeremy, and then slammed down the phone.
"I take it you really didn?t want to do that." The girl
said.
"No. I don't like getting in trouble." I replied.
"I'm willing to help you with that. My name's Crystal Holms."
The stranger volunteered and introduced.
"Hi, my name is Jennifer Gray, and I would love some help. I
just want friends." I agreed eagerly. I was interested in what this little girl
had to teach me.
It wasn't long before my mom arrived at the school, as she was
driving her police cruiser with her lights and siren going. Mom burst into the
room and grabbed my roughly by the arm and gave me a very hard spanking. "I
don't want you ever to do this again, understand?" She whispered into my ear as
she knelt next to me.
I nodded through the pain of her spanking. I shortly received
fifteen more as she dragged me out of the school. "I mean it, Jennifer. I've
told you not to hit; you're stronger than most of the kids in that class.
Luckily, Jeremy's a dragon, like you, or else you would have broken his jaw and
leg. Oh, and you're grounded for the next month: no friends, no playing
outside, and no nothing except food, clothing, shelter, education and love.
That's it." My mom continued as she flipped her siren on and sped off toward
our house. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Micah Watkins, sffworld.com. All rights reserved. No part of this may be reproduced or reprinted without permission in writing from the author.
