Return Of The Morags

A year had past since the  Interstellar 1 Research Cruiser had encountered the Morag battle ship.  In the past few months, similar attacks by the Morag's  had transpired with devastating consequences.  Captain Joe Egals had been placed in command of the Starbase and had been taking it easy.
"Captain Egals to Central Command......Captain."
Egals pressed the com. button on his desk,
"On my way!" Egals left his quarters and made his way to Central Command,  on the way he gazed out of an armoured port holes,  he could see the incoming Battlestar's docking at the station and he longed to be in command of the one of those ships.  Egals entered the Turbolift,.
"PLEASE ENTER FLOOR NUMBER !"
"Floor 100 !" Egals spoke clearly in to the microphone.
"THIS FLOOR IS RESTRICTED,  PLEASE ENTER ACCESS CODE OR SELECT ANOTHER FLOOR."
"Code 1475/JE !" Egals hated the computer it never recognised his voice pattern and he always had to enter his code.
The doors slid open and he disembarked,  the Command Centre was bustling with activity.
"Sir there is a sub space transmission from High Command and it's for you !" The communications officer started to patch him through.
"Don't sound so surprised John !" Egals laughed.
"Joe I'm glad to see you looking so well. "
"Thank you Admiral.  So what's the problem?" Egals asked.
"Lets get straight to the point I know you want a ship and I have got a position for you !" Admiral Smith said as he lent forward on his chair.
"May I ask what ship it'll be ?" Egals said anticipating the response.
"Well...........! If you must know,  you will be in command of the Flag Ship Independence !" The Admiral smiled as he delivered the good news.
"My god,  I don't believe it !"  Egals almost fainted.
"You better leave for Outpost 15 to receive your orders and obviously good luck."  Admiral Smith signed off.
Egals turned to face the rest of the crew,  they all started to cheer,
"Thanks a lot ! I'm not that bad,  am I." Egals laughed and left the control room,  he made his way the lift shaft.  In the Turbolift Egals thought long and hard about his new assignment,  he eventually arrived at the Shuttle Bay and he was met  by the Shuttle Pilot,
"Hi,  I'm Volpan Quakes but my friends call me Pan !"
"Fair enough Pan,  I'm Captain Joe Egals."
"So Captain where ya heading ?"
"Outpost 15 !" Egals answered.
Both men walked across the empty Shuttle Bay,  they entered a small ship and Pan sat at the controls.  Pan keyed in his command codes and the ship shuddered into action and then the ship lost all power, .
"It does this from time to time !" Pan said as he hit the control panel and the ships computer reactivated, "There ! Nothing too worry about."
"I hope so !" Egals replied.
The Engineering crews left the Shuttle Bay,  all the airlocks were sealed  and the outer doors were beginning to open when the small shuttle made it's way  into the dark,  cold space.
Egals lent back on his chair and closed his eyes,  he started to relax in the silence until Volpan spoke,
"Well we better check in with the Outpost,  so we don't get shoot down !"
"Thing's have got that bad ."  Egals exclaimed.
"It's these Morags,  lately they have been attacking every Outpost in this sector." Volpan said.
Egals turned to the communications desk and opened a channel to the Outpost,  They  acknowledge their flight plane
