Moem The Beginning (Book Excerpt) by Linda Whiddon
Page 3 of 4 These so called mongrels were the newest breed of cyborgs cloned and sent
into battle against the Federation. With this new type of skilled and very
lethal non-human organism, the war could rage on until every last human was
killed.
These powerful beings were more than synthetic replicated flesh over metal
with a computer chip for a brain. They were the most advanced robotics of their
type. They had been created for one purpose. Their sole objective was to
destroy all human life. So far they had managed to wipe out half of the smaller
planets in the known galaxy.
The three larger planets, Melina, Betrix and Terra were next. Melina was the
smallest of the trio and was already targeted for invasion. The peaceful planet
was occupied with under fifty percent humans mostly unarmed. The rest of the
planet was inhabited by friendly aliens who co-existed in peace without so much
of a hint of the impending danger heading their way.
Mahakala, self proclaimed Lord of the dark worlds and the leader of this
vile war, had long ago vowed to avenge the deaths of his wife, Iberia and his
two sons, Phaltos and Ithen. He was a young man then, full of hope and belief
that he was fighting a just war.
While he was off fighting for the Federation, his wife and children had been
captured by the Moabs, a fierce band of outlawed renegades who had grown in
numbers large enough to pull a surprise attack upon a remote military outpost
of Melina where his wife and sons were living.
They were kidnaped along with the visiting President of the Federation, his
family and military staff. Negotiations began.
Things did not go well. Miscommunication and slow delivery of the renegade's
demands of money and aircraft resulted in the deaths of his wife and sons.
Expendable because they held no leverage, no bargaining power in the outer
worlds.
Eventually deals were made. The President, his family and staff were
released. Mahakala's's family came home too. In metal coffins. But nothing was
done to avenge their deaths and eventually the whole matter was swept under the
carpet.
When Mahakala protested this outrage, he was reassigned to a far distant
mining outpost on the planet Bergun. He would remain there isolated with
virtually no physical contact with the outer worlds for ten years.
Mahakala thought of little else but how to overthrow the Federation and
bring it to its knees. The grim atmosphere of Bergun gave the brooding Mahakala
time to think about how he would accomplish such a feat.
To start, most of the men working in the mines were prisoners. Hardened
criminals with life sentences and no prospect of parole. Mahakala quickly
released them from their prison cells offering them freedom if they would fight
with him against the Federation.
From one man in particular, Mahakala learned the art of black magic. The
type of magic he delved into was beyond the normal spell casting, soothsaying,
or levitational powers. This particular magic involved the molecular changing
of his body through shape shifting.
One minute he was human and the next he was a powerful necromancer with
super human strength. He was also taught how to leave his body and enter other
realms and dimensions at will. It was there he learned many secrets of the
universe which eventually enabled him to become a supreme being in his own
right.
Of course, there were other highly evolved beings who also had these same
powers which Mahakala had to reckon with. But his power was stronger and he
quickly defeated many of his adversaries. Over the years his evil grew and knew
no boundaries. Innocent lives were sacrificed as the recruited victims he sent
into battle died for his evil cause.
Mahakala would then snatch their spirits and send them to the Bardo, a black
hole in the universe, where they would remain enslaved to him until they were
reborn once again to do his evil bidding.
With the help of the world's top scientists who had been kidnaped and forced
to live on Bergun where there was no hope of escape, his robotics were built to
perfection. In the last five years unstoppable cyborg killing machines were
sent into space to destroy all planets with humans living upon them. Copyright© 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 Linda Whiddon, sffworld.com. All rights reserved. No part of this may be reproduced or reprinted without permission in writing from the author.
