Duel
         by Rick Wolfe

See me here,
Watch the night close in.
Touch my fear.
Feel the demons gather within.

My blade gleams in the light, ever so gently.
Do you feel it?
Death comes, on this night most unholy.
Can you not sense it?
Death is but faintest of stings.
A ghostly breath on fluttering wings.

Shadows of today and yesterday, collide.
Bringing with it, news of her suicide.
A lady born, tried and true.
A lady of noble heart, I say to you.
She was mine own heart, who's laughter held back the darkness in my soul.
Mine one true desire, who's passing has wreaked a savage toll.

I know not what I can but do.
The reaper has taken his due.
My feelings are crushed in his vise.
I feel the pain.
It spreads like a stain.
And cloaks mine heart in ice.

No pain, no desire.
My very soul, ravaged.
My very heart, savaged.
My thoughts, of death and fire.

A traitor, this night lies.
An innocent, this night dies.
A murderer, takes another life.
Another heart, is filled with strife.

An assassins blade, I hold before me.
A gleaming blade, a murderous key.
He who caused the loss of all I held dear.
His death in payment, nothing less, I fear.

My blade dips and stabs, of it's own accord.
It touches but once, cutting my life's cord.
For her blood is on my hands you see.
For that, mine life, my miserable life, must flee.
