The Continuing Adventures of Farfinkle and Friends (3 ratings) by Philip B. Young
Page 10 of 10 Eddie said "let’s teach them a lesson boys", but before he could raise his
right arm, all eyes turned to the fireplace mantle where Catey stood up. "I
wouldn’t do that if I were you. Oh Horace, dear, would you come in here for a
moment please." All eyes turned to the door to the hallway as Horace slowly
entered the room.
""Now Horace my sweet" and did his eyes ever glitter when she said that.
"These gentlemen here were considering welching on a bet. What do you
think we should do with a mouse that won’t pay his gambling debt darling."
Horace just stood there without saying a word (cats are so good at that).
"Now Catey" he said with a very noticeable stammer, "you know I’m good for
it. Why I would never welch out on you, would I boys?" His henchman looked a
lot
smaller as they nodded their assents.
"Why I’m so glad to hear that Eddie, sweetie. I know your good for it,
that’s
why Horace here is going to accompany you and these other gents back to your,
lair I believe you call it, and collect all of our money if you please; isn’t
that right Horace dear?"
Horace just stood there and slowly began grooming his right front paw with
that pink tongue of his.
The sounds of workmen busy at their crafts echoed throughout Aloysius’
castle. "I can’t ever thank you enough Catey and you too Grainger. And Horace,
no one will ever forget the looks on Eddie and his men’s faces as you chased
them from town after they paid us what they owed. It will be a long time before
they show their faces around here. I can’t wait to see the house fixed up and I
quit my job over at Ernie’s. By the way Horace how do you like the addition out
back that the workers are building for you? I’m going to love having you stay
here." Horace just sat there, a quiet look of satisfaction on his face as he
groomed himself.
"Never again will I ever remove my eye for someone to ‘borrow’, I learned my
lesson there. Catey, my dear, have you picked out the furnishings for your
rooms
yet?" The whole town had been shocked to learn that Catey the Stew-we was
moving
into the palace of Grainger the Pachyderm star Whychthelmnyiongthy player!
Shocked, but happy for them. It was, after all, the best arrangement for two of
them. She still mourning the loss of her beloved Twiggles Snarktooth and he
happy to be of service to her and the envy of every other pachyderm in the
district I might add.
Now on the other side of town, in the castle, in the chamber of the castle
as
he liked to call it, Farfinkle was sitting back in his own leather chair with
his feet up on his hassock enjoying his mornings coffee. Peace and quiet, and
not to mention the most delightful fragrances, once again wafted through his
home. He felt relaxed for the first time in a great many days. Relaxed and
proud
of himself, for, after all, it was his wizardry that had saved the day for one
and all and he was looking for a good long stretch of peace and quiet.
No sooner had the first taste of his coffee passed his lips when the knocker
on his front door echoed it’s pounding all throughout his home. "Dingleberries
and Double-Dingleberries!" he shouted before slowly getting up to see who was
at
his door.
The End (for now!)
