Owen's - Rants from the Multiverse All those with telekinesis raise my hand
Thursday, July 7, 2005 LondonSo I was all set to give Clive Woodward another tongue-lashing and talk about the cricket when it all became utterly unimportant. Pretty much all my friends currently work in London and it was only when I turned on Sky Sports News to see the Lions team at 10am did I see the tickertape showing "London bombed, full story Sky News". I sat there for the next three hours not working, not doing anything just gutted that on the back of the Olympics announcement, our taking control of the EU presidency and giving the finger to Chirac, terrorists had destroyed the feel-good factor that had crept into the Isles. They had taken British lives.
That's what terrorism does, it sucks the life out of you, when you should be enjoyingthe summer sun, the cricket season, the opposite sex in skimpy clothes, ice cream there are groups willing to take innocent life. For what? What did the people in London die for? They died because of the country they lived in. We are told not to be bigots, that it is individuals that are responsible - yet these individuals attack random people, people who may share their ethnicity, their religion (although that is only lip service on the terrorists part) and maybe even come from the same country originally. Their acts serve no purpose, it will not over throw governments, it will not change policy - it will only strengthen resolve. Therein lies the message the world can send back to them; you cannot beat us, you cannot kill us all, we are too many and too strong. We will find you and justice will be served.
My thoughts andsympathies are extended to those families and people involved in today's events. Posted by Owen Jones 2005-07-07 17:04:09
Wednesday, July 6, 2005 More time - less stuff gets doneI have been experiencing this phenomenon for the last few days, I've had plenty of time on my hands to do whatever I want - like WRITING !!! but I never actually got round to any. I mean I have pieces from people to read, which I didn't do, I have training that can be done but I didn't give it a second thought and in the end for my time I seem to have nothing. So it is my firmly held belief :) that the more rushed you are for time, the more things you have to do the more likely you are to make full use of your time. I can remember fitting three rugby games, three rugby training sessions, two TKD classes, two hours of kickboxing, five days of school plus homework, books, films and computer games into a week. Is it true that formost of us our mostattentive days are behind us? I'm beginning to feel it's true and I'm kinda giving up on writing, maybe I'll stick to reading - it's more fun :) Posted by Owen Jones 2005-07-06 18:34:52
Tuesday, July 5, 2005 BroadbandIs it sad to be excited by technology? Either way I am - sad and excited by technology. Ever since I played my first game of CS, very brief ... I was woeful, I've been hooked on BB technology and just the speed that you can do things that on any form of dial-up would take a literal age, not to mention disconnections. So I have a 1mb uncapped connection for a price that a year ago would have been unthinkable. As is the way with most new items, whetherit be clothes or computers, they get superseded and economies of scale come into play. Thankfully for what I need 1mb willbe more than enough for the short-term - just don't be surprised not to see as many blog entries, I lost a whole month at uni to CS :)) Posted by Owen Jones 2005-07-05 17:43:22
Monday, July 4, 2005 Self-righteousnessYou come across it a lot, even guilty of it yourself sometimes, small people who believe it's either their way or the highway, every issue is a drama, every drama an epic. Do you think they realise? I mean the moment my head starts drifting toward my ass there are a lot of people I can trust to stop me. Is it that they don't get challenged or that in RL nobody pays them any attention so it all comes flowing out elsewhere. What's worse if you do challenge them they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. It's a no win situation, which for stubborn people like me is simply an invitation beat it. Sunday, July 3, 2005 SchoolI wasn't a big fan of school and I'm not sure whether it is time and retrospection, but I seem to think about it with more enjoyment than I used to. I still wonder about some of the people I knew and how things must have changed for them, I hear rumours and sometimes unfortunate incidentsabout familiar faces from time to time yetit all seems like an eternity ago. Is it inevitable that having spent such a long time there we all maintain a certain fondness forit all? Posted by Owen Jones 2005-07-03 18:13:30
