Four more years

Despite the best of intentions the Lions lost and now it will be four more years before we see them again - so who knows anyone in South Africa I can crash with, four years from now? Time to start saving :)

Drinking issues

If you'll excuse the pun, this is somewhat of a more sober blog. I've seen people drink a lot of alcohol, when you play rugby you meet guys who can put it away but normally this is only on the weekend and obviously they train throughout the week. Your teenage years and even early twenties are experimental ones, meaning you do things no right thinking person would but it seems to make sense at the time. More than that you laugh at the papers who rant about 24hr drinking and the nation's problems with binge drinking.

However when you watch someone consume a bottle of Jack anda bottle of Barcardi in the space of a few days, thengo out and drink scary amounts of alcoholall weekend your understanding is shaken. I've recently witnessed this happening to someone close to me and I'll be honest it's scares the living shit out of me. Imaging where they are and what they are doing at night is nerve-wracking and I have no clue what to do. Has anyone else experienced this?

Times they are a'changing

Have you ever wondered about that other family you see on holiday taking a million holiday photos? I always have, it seems a touch pointless at the time but it became evident today that it really is a good idea. My mother was cleaning out one of the draws that keeps our holiday snaps in and rather than help I started looking through them, as you do. What comes across is how amazing the changes we go through are, asrecently as 2000 my brother was a verychubbykid with big round glasses, to look at the photos and then at him today is to see two different people. Same for me, our last family holiday in 2000 I was just growing the goatee that has remained ever since, I was two stone lighter and a lot less dense looking :) More than that though, the photos look like places I've never been butwould like to. It's like these are the holiday photos you would take were you there. Five years isn't a long time but by the same token it seems like a life time ago, here's a picture to amuse people :)

Everything's ending

Only on Tv that is, I guess the various channels realise that with people on holidays and the weather being so nice, very few folk are going to be spending time in front of the box. So waved off 24 this week with another stinker of a day for Jack - to quote John McClane "How can the same shit happen to the same guy twice," only for Bauer this is fourth time unlucky and rumours of a movie in the works.Other time-passers include Smallville, The OC, Alias fairly soon and even the bloody Lions will soon have played two tests. But we do get to look forward to new seasons of The Wire and The Shield plus the Tri-Nations. If your wondering why I'm on about TV during the balmy summer months it's because I am looking for an excuse, even TV, not to go pre-season training - I hate those words :)

Early mornings

Some people can do it, some people can't. I'll be honest I used to think I was in the former category - I used to do paper rounds at 6am in the morning until I was 17 and even at uni I could get up for 9am lectures without a problem. However getting up to watch the Lions games after going to bed at 1amish is really getting a struggle. Anyone found the best sleeping pattern? I know it will be different for different people but I think I may be going to be that hour too late and not getting enough sleep as a result.
