Is Spring Here Yet?

This is the time of the year when I start to feel hopeless about all the things I won't get to in my classes. There is only so much time in the year, and so many possibilities.

I ran across a wonderfully droll student-written spoof of Romeo and Juliet called "Rodeo and Juniet," in which Tylenol Caplet gets killed, as well as Count Berlin, and Fryer Larry actually hits on Juniet a bit.

My students and I had a blast today reading this together after having toiled our way through Shakespeare for the past month or so.

I want to recommedn "Million Dollar Baby" to everyone who likes serious film. This is a masterpiece of character study. Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, and Hilary Swank are all at the top of their form. Just be prepared for an emotional roller coaster of a story.

Time Flies When You're Having Fun

Good grief, has it been that long since I wrote here? Let's see, what interesting things have happened to me over the last week?

Got to see Phantom of the Opera, which was way, way cool, even though I was sick and froze to death in the damn theatre.

I'm managing to get Romeo and Juliet across to at least some of my students. Some are terminally bored and like nothing......or at least it seems that way.

Have worked sick as a dog the past two days. Everyone our way seems to have the same kind of viral thing........head full of sinus crud, cough, scratchy throat, aches, but low fevers. I'm out of sick days, so have had to work sick, which is not fun.

Going to see The Aviator in a few hours with the family. Will bring a heavy coat this time around!

It's good to see some new faces around here.......have to make time to get here this weekend and catch up on the news.

Friday again......Shakespeare Still in Love!

I have just completed a very successful week of introduing Romeo and Juliet to another batch of freshmen, and I am feeling pretty good about it. Sometimes when I'm teaching something, I get a burst of fresh confidence, like I really know what I'm doing, am good at it, and am on the mark. This was one of those times.

I can hardly wait to get to the end of the unit and watch the 1998 film version with them; very few of them have seen it. I anticipate watching their reactions to the modern take......I love the energy, the music of that version, though I still appreciate the beauty of the '68 Zeferreli.

I have fond memories of that one, indeed, I was a senior in high school when it came out and I recall all of us loving it. One of my friends had me sing her wedding using some of the songs from the film. (Yes, I was an actual wedding singer in my youth....LOL)

Unfortunately, she and her hubby divorced a few years later.....oh well.....

Right now I am eagerly awaiting the newest episodes of Stargate and Atlantis.....I'm off to fix supper and get ready for them.

Hanging in There

Can't believe it's Tuesday.....the week is almost half-gone. Is that more optimistic or pessimistic? Depends on how much has been left undone, untaken care of.

Right about now, I am generally feeling very overwhelmed, like there are entirely too many things for me to be responsible for. Schoolwork seems to get more and more complex, as the required documentation and paperwork increase. RL business is getting backed up, and I don't know how I'll find time to get it all done in decent order.

My arm is better; it is not hurting quite so much to type, but the numb fingers are starting to hurt. I know that sounds paradoxical! Perhaps the soreness is a good sign....LOL....meaning the feeling is coming back?

Anyway, I miss everyone, haven't been around anywhere near as often as usual. I am so far behind on threads it's not funny. I need to make time to read everyone else's Blog, as well!

It's Been a While.....

So many new "faces" around here and new entries to read! My arm and back are doing better this morning, but fingers are still numb and typing is very uncomfortable. I just had to touch base and let everyone know I was still breathing, though you probably won't find me posting much if at all for a while yet.

Hope everyone is staying warm and cozy....been watching the Weather Channel and looks like lots of friends in the Northeastern and New England States have gotten one to two feet of snow over the last couple of days. It would be a miracle for me to see any, living where I do.

Peace, love, and good vibes, I'm out of here for a while.
