'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' is the second of a fantastic extremely popular book series. It is about a 13 year old wizard called Harry Potter who attends 'Hogwarts School of Witch craft and Wizardry' . During the dreaded summer holidays, spent with nosy Aunt Petunia, no necked Uncle Vernon and plump spoilt Dudley, trouble is waiting for him in his room by a small 'House Elf' called Dobby. He is warned not to go back to school for bad things are going to happen to him if he does so. Harry will not hear of it though. He soon gets a call from one of his best friends Ron Weasly, asking him to stay for the rest of summer. Harry is of course delighted to go, but is very surprised when he is picked up by flying car. When it is time to go back to school Harry and Ron have some trouble getting on to platform nine and three quarters where the Hogwarts Express will soon be leaving for school. Harry and Ron decide that they can get there them selves and follow the Train in Mr Weasly's flying car. Much trouble came from this.
As the year goes on Harry discovers that he can speak parcel tong (which means that you can speak to snakes). The only other person who can speak that was Salazar Slytherin the dark wizard who Slytherin made house. This made every one think that Harry was the much talked about descendent of him. Harry then finds a diary of someone called Tom Riddle whose mind is in the diary, he appears to be a friend to Harry. He soon discovers that Tom is the very one who is controlling the evil basilisk that is going round the school through the pipes petrifying the student so that they can't move until the very hard to get medicine is drunk. When Ginny Ron's sister is actually taken away to the Chamber of secrets, he knew that he must find her. Harry finds the entrance in the girls abandoned bath room, where he goes down and finds Tom. He then reveals his true identity, it is his name mixed up.

Harry then fights the basilisk unarmed and thinks its all over but then Dumbledores beautiful golden phoenix Fawkes and the grotty tattered old school sorting hatarrived at the scene. As Harry puts the sorting hat on his head a large jewel encrusted sword falls out that once belonged to Godric Gryffindor and Fawkes poked out the snakes eyes so that she could not kill Harry with her stare. Harry then killed the basilisk with the sword, then she fell but on to Harry's arm and her fangs pierced it and the venom nearly killed Harry but Fawkes cried and his tears healed Harry's wound. In the end Harry saves Ginny and frees Dobby the House Elf from his awful owners the Malfoys.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is a great book for all ages. This is the kind of book that once you start you feel as though you are in the story and time slips past you. When I started reading the book and it seemed that I had been there for just a few minutes but actually I had sat there for an hour and a half. This book has so many twists and turns that I started to get scared for Harry, Ron, and, Hermione. In the story I thought for sure Harry was done for when he met the basilisk that was turning the students was making the students so petrified that they couldn't move. I was surprised when Harry pulled Godric Gryffindors sword out of the sorting hat and when Fawkes came and healed Harry when he was very near death. In my opinion the end was very clever the way that Tom Marvolo Riddle turned out to be Voldemourt. I give this book a 10/10 !
