Beserker series, 1967-2005. While not exactly "hard sci-fi" probably the most imaginative, chilling, well thought out description of machine AI and likely thought processes I've read. Dark space opera at its best. Most of them twist and turn, endings usually being hard to guess. Fred must be pushing 90 now, keep it up sir!!
