The Island Of Doctor Moreau is a masterpiece of literature. It cannot easily be classified, but SF, fable, satire or fantasy are all part of a very rich mix.

The basic storyline about a doctor playing God with animals and changing them into intelligent 'humans' indicates Wells' themes. What is civilization? What is our true nature? What part does religion - or even simple belief - play in the natural process of life?

One of the most thought-provoking, chilling novels of all time. Highest recommendation.
