Invisible Ring, The by Anne Bishop

What I liked about this book was that you got to see the Black Jewels world through a different perspective. You got to see how regular Blood works in contrast to the extremely powerful and dark characters of the trilogy. It was a delightful change in scenery and although I missed the other characters I've come to love, I appreciated the new ones.

The Invisible Ring is set in the same world as Anne Bishops Black Jewels Trilogy. It centers around a young slave who happens to be a Red jeweled warlord who eventually gains his freedom. The cast of slaves in this society talks about men who are usually controlled through a ring of obedience which sends extreme pain to a man's genitalia. When this man is sold after killing a Queen (Very scary thing for this society) he is bought by a seemingly dangerous queen, however she ends up having the best intentions. Good plot twists. This queen tells him that he is held by the invisible ring after she takes off his ring of obedience. The characters are not as interesting as the ones that are in the Black Jewels trilogy, however this story gives a glimpse into how things were before Witch comes. It is entertaining, but not as great as her other works.
