(Jun 28, 2010)When I first picked up Furies of Caulderon I definitely had my reservations about starting another series claiming to be epic fantasy. However within the first few chapters of the novel, my thoughts on the matter disappeared and my attention focused on the incredible story. In Furies of Caulderon, Jim Butcher has crafted a marvelous fantasy world with characters that grab on to the reader's emotions through the entirety of the novel. The story definitely has something for everyone: powerful elemental magic, brilliantly described swordplay, humorous character banter, stunning plot twists, even the spark of romance. Most readers will also appreciate that Butcher manages to avoid the typical cliches of other epic fantasy novels. The plot and characters are a breath of fresh air to the fantasy world. Even the most avid fantasy reader will find something new and exciting within these pages.
