This is a great book but Brian and the other authors did not do enough research In the book they mention D-WOLVES. Well D-WOLVES were not bred until later on in Leto II life time to guard his fortress citadel in the forbidden forest but all in all it is a good book.

I loved this book! I am one of the many avid fans of the DUNE series. House Harkonnen continues the wonderful tangled web of futuristic political intrigue that set the DUNE series apart from other science fiction books. This book does a great job introducing three key characters: Lady Jessica, Dr. Yueh and Gurney Halleck. Brian Herbert and his co-author did an excellent job carefully splicing the characters into the overall DUNE story. I too read the book quickly and will look forward to the next instalment with eager anticipation.

The series details the events leading up to the Sci-Fi classic, Dune, by Frank Herbert.  If the length of time it took to read is any judge, then this book is great.  I read the 600 page book in under 48hrs (and I consider myself an average speed reader).  All the old favorite charcters from Dune are finally introduced like Gurney Halleck, Dr. Yueh, and Lady Jessica, who were absent from the first novel in the series.  The charcters receive some more development and the plot moves along nicely.  I found it to be worthy of the hardback price ($28.00!!!!) which unfortunatly I find few books to be. I will most likely be giving it a reread sometime in the future.  My only problem now is waiting the 1+ year for the next installment.

My only major complaint is that the authors seemd the need to insert meaningless charcters to move the plot along.  I dont know if these charcters were part of the framework layed by Frank Herbert  before they died or just added by Brian Herbert and Anderson.  It seemed they were added because they couldnt find any way to move events along to the point where they are in Dune.  I mean come on with a wide array of characters already, they still needed to add like 4-5 more.  I still highly recomend the book despite that small flaw.
