Submitted by Thomas Wiloch (Jul 21, 2005)The Steel of Enadia is an epic fantasy in which the young apprentice wizard Jann must discover the real meaning of the strange Mark of the Second Eye upon his chest–-does it mark him as evil or as specially chosen? It has, after all, awakened strange magical powers within him, although these powers come and go as they please. Accompanied by several friends, including the half-serpent, half-tortoise Cecil, the beastie hybrid Brodi, and the mysterious witch Dania, Jann journeys across Kyrland in search of the truth. Along the way, the group fight off the Black Hoods in battles of high drama and escape captors in moments of almost-screwball comedy. Hile has a way of making even the most bizarre characters believable. This ability, and the quick, inventive pace of the plot, keeps you reading until the final, world-shattering conflict.
