Wow! This is a really fun and engaging read! I read this book after reading the more recent Starscape Project (the sequel to this one), and I was blown away. The story is incredibly creative, and you can tell Aiken took special to make the fiction as believable as possible. The story follows one Danny Stryker, an Earth Federation pilot, on his quest to essentially save humanity from a once-peaceful-now-hostile race called the Teconeans. The catch is, he has to travel back in time to the 19th century Old Wild West to retrieve an energy source lost in time. And the Teconean spies are hot on his trail all the while. A great, genre-mixing book that is good by itself, best taken with the Starscape Project, I highly recommend this novel from a refreshing new author.
