Submitted by homer (Sep 02, 2011)Stone cold is a fantastic book to read. It gives children aged 10-13 a chance to read and to know how homelessness is all about and how it feels to be homeless. The book tells you what happens to homeless people because there is a killer.
In this novel, a 16 year old boy who’s gone homeless because of his horrible step dad. He travels to London and there are some other homeless people who he meets but they go missing without explanation. There is a sergeant who asks dossers on the streets if they want to come into his flat could he be the explanation for Links friends going missing.
The strengths in this book are when Shelter had killed his last victim because I was left feeling emotional because of all the people he has killed was really unexpected and had no reason to die. The weakness in this book is when Link meets Gail because it is unrealistic to find a homeless woman in a café and that has loads of money in her pocket.
The story lines main theme in this book is murder because Shelter is a murderer and he is equipped with his plans and he is clever tricking homeless people with his cat to make him look casual and he can even trick the police because they came to his house and all he done was act casual in front of them.
To conclude the stone cold purpose is to get teenagers to get back into reading. The age range is about age 11-14 because boys in that range never read there too busy playing out or watching TV or on computer games. I could recommend this book to my friends that don’t read that much and always play computer games.
