In the first volume in the Incarnations of Immortality series, we meet Zane, a young man down on his luck. Through a series of Fate's intervention, he finds himself aquiring the guise of Death, the Grim Reaper incarnate.
Upon his death-horse, Mortis, Zane must scour to world to reap the souls of those who's lives have put their sins and merits into an equilibrium, immediately slated for neither Heaven nor hell.
In this first volume we are introduced to the Magician Kaftan, and his daughter Luna, who will come to play an integral role in the fate of mankind, as well as her life having an ingrained theme throughout the series.
Combining fantasy and science fiction (leaving the Xanthly puns behind), Piers Anthony kicks off the Incarnations series with a real page turner. Anyone who enjoys sci-fi or fantasy novels, or who has that all-too-common morbid fascination with death, this is definately a book for you.
