Submitted by Anabela (Sep 02, 2009)In Steven van Patten (Winner of The Premier Book Awards Best Mystery/Thriller/Fantasy for 2008) novel, the story of Christian Brookwater continues. A chain of revelations (treason, thorny political plots, personal growth fueled by both stipulation and choice) turns this classic novel into a contemporary journal. The author’s intention of entertaining while exposing some realities we all can relate to, is triumphant. Nonetheless, the reader is not faced with judgment or sermon prejudice, even in Evil actions some Good is present and none of the characters is flawless. Not an easy task when the classic Vampire genre is to be sustained. Since I have been exposed and became familiar with Steven van Patten’s work (published and otherwise), I now have very high expectations, which were met and exceed in his new masterpiece. He created and uncovered all old and new characters with an uncanny precision; the comic moments had me instinctively laughing aloud; the surprise element was present proving that often things are not what they look. Mr van Patten’s eloquence and refine use of word will delight every literature lover.
My sincere congratulations to who has become one of my favorite authors of all time and gratitude for offering me (and many others) such feast for famished and avid readers.
