Curse of the Spider King by Wayne Thomas Batson

Curse of the Spider King was amazing!!! It was well written, and kept me entralled from the start to the finish. It has alot of action, suspence and mystery. This has to be Wayne Thomas Batson's best book ever!!! I would recommend this book to any of my friends. This is a must read for any one who loves great books.

In all honesty I found myself banging my head a few time while reading this book. I found it a hard to follow the beginning of the story with it jumping around to many different places and with so many main characters. Several of the main characters I didn’t connect with, causing those short sections to seem uninteresting to me. But then several of the other characters caught my attention and drew me deep into the story

The part where the kids touched the lettering on the Elf History books i really neat. It is exactly what happens readers (around the world, I'm sure) when they pick up a good book. I have experienced this with both author’s previous books. It was not quite as strong a feeling with CotSK for me. But that could be partly due to me trying to stay distant from those spiders.

Over all this was a good book (I’m not just saying that, it’s how I really feel), certainly not my favourite one to come from Mr. Batson and Mr. Hopper. They do leave you wondering when the bad guys are able to sneak one of their own into the Elven group. I’m sure that ‘Venom and Song’, the next book in the series, will be great and I am really looking forward to it.

Seven teens discover they are royalty in another world called Allyra. As infants, they were cast from Allyra to Earth because of an ancient curse. But now the time has come to find them and bring them home before the Spider King can destroy their Elven race.

If you are a Wayne Thomas Batson fan, you won't be disappointed by this book. I've never read anything by Christopher Hopper, but judging by Spider King, I'd say he and WTB make a good team. I was a little disappointed that this book seemed more of a set-up for the books to come rather than a complete story of its own. But with seven main characters all coming from different places, a lot of space is needed to get their characters developed and learn about their individual pasts. I will say that the characterization was quite good, and the action moved well--it kept my attention to the end. I do intend to read the next book when it comes out, if that tells you anything. I can't say this is my favorite fantasy book ever, but it was a fun ride.
