I have suggested it here as an outstanding example of genre fiction - yet I'm not sure what genre it really belongs to! It always reminded me of a sort of cross between Orwell and Kafka, yet with an atmosphere all of its own: horror / crime / scifi /spy thriller all rolled into one. I believe many readers of this site would enjoy it, although perhaps enjoy is not the right word for such a grim story !
The 'Rogue Male' of the title is a man on the run - we are never told much about him, yet his character is one of the most vivid portrayals in fiction that I know. He has been tortured by some unspecified nasty repressive regime, but manages to escape. However the forces who imprisoned him - unfortunately clever thugs - are now trying to track him down....
