For those who have read Gemmell's work before the basic's of this books plot will be familliar : An aged but deadly killer seeks redemnation gets pulled into afight agaisnt evil despite his wish just to be left alone aided by the usual ragtag band of would be heroes.
However this book is superior to much of gemmells previous work in many ways for one you feel some sympathy for the villains despite their deeds second the geniune heroe in this story is not a warrior but a ditch-digger! while the book closes the door on one of gemmells most interesting characters it does so in a manner that istrangely touching even if you are not a fan of gemmell i would still recommend this book for those who like agood read.
