(Jun 20, 2004)David Gemmell once again brings us another GREAT tale in the Heroic Fantasy genre. Set in the cold and inhospitable highlands this is an intriguing story about an oppressed people; which has not known any victories for decades since their clannish armies were severely defeated by the organized and ruthless forces of the "Outlanders". But worse is yet to come; nothing is as dangerous as a huge war machine, and a ruthless provincial ruler; with the need for further glories and conquest where no new lands nor any new enemies can be found. A gripping and cruel tale about personal bravery, humanity's capability for cruelty; and the will of resistance in people who has been wronged. Enthralling characters; and a well written story makes this a book worth reading. Beware though it is not for the faint hearted, and should be in the category "adult" fantasy.
