Submitted by Chris (Dec 30, 2005)The Arthurian legend has been written, filmed, and explored to an amazing depth. So when picking up “yet another King Arthur book” I did not hold high hopes. After the second page, I knew this was something not only different, but fantastic as well. This is not the same old Arthur tale. Told from his death bed by Arthur himself, this tale is instead a gripping and almost historical story of a man who begins his life as a poor and often times overlooked child servant. It follows him through his military career and later his forced coup to become the one King. Brutal and bloody in parts, with deep imagery and strong historical credibility, this is a must read. Parke Godwin has a way of taking history and rewriting it, not changing it so much as placing legendary characters we all know in it, and still making it all work. It is more like he is telling a story of actual events. Just make sure that you see all of the King Arthur movies and read all of the books available BEFORE you read this one, because the rest just will not capture you like this one, and you will likely not finish. Good job Godwin, Good job. By the way Parke, if the major studios come calling, make sure you write the screen play too.
