Page 5 of 7 Pillars of Creation by Terry Goodkind
Submitted by BlueEarth666@HotMail.Com (Dec 12, 2002)No development of the main plot.In my opinion skip it and except that Richard has a new half sister named Jensen who had a really tough time for a while but has become just like him, while his half brothers all go homicidal. Although, I recommend and love the rest of the series.
P.S. Sorry about spelling Submitted by Anonymous (Dec 12, 2002)I thought that this book was rather dissapointing because up to this point I have read several books building on the skills of Richard and his bond with the people and with Kahlan. This book went completely away from that and did not build on it at all, if I wanted to read a book about different characters then I would start reading another series. Very dissapointing book considering I waited a year for it to come out. If I were you I would wait until the next book in the series because this one was a waste of my time and money. Submitted by Infinity (Dec 12, 2002)Although I have been a long time fan of Terry Goodkind I found this book to have taken a very large side track to the main storyline of the Sword of Truth series. I found it frustrating reading each chapter hoping that the story would get on track. Each chapter I read made me more frustrated, not knowing what was going on in the main story line.
I am not saying this book was bad, but it felt like it had no conection to the main story. I was hoping for some continuation of the the war with the Old World.
I love the the Sword of Truth Series and I hope that the next book will continue with the war. In truth, this book could be bypassed while reading the series. I do not think that this book will have a tremendous amount of impact on books to come.
I ecncourage everyone to read The Sword of Truth series, but I did not feel this book was worth the time and frustration that I endured. Submitted by Linkoftheshadow (Dec 12, 2002)Terry Goodkind is one of the most talented writers I know of. His work is very detailed and emotionally envolving. I have read the entire series and believe Pillars of Creation to be just as good as anything he has ever written. Although the story did not revolve around Richard it did give the reader insight into the life of Richards sister. Mr. Goodkind i would like to let you know just how pleased I am that you will be writing "until they nail my coffin shut." Submitted by Gordon Milne (Dec 12, 2002)Well, let me start by saying the first three books written by Mr. Goodkind were fabulous. The way he tied the stories and characters together was both amazing and exciting.
However, the last three books have been very disappointing. It seems that he no longer has a focus for the new books and is instead merely trying to make money through the sale of the "next chapter". In PoC we spend the majority of the story with Oba (who is a waste of skin) and Jensen, who really has no major role to play in the development of the greater story. Gone are the days of Richard, Gratch and Scarlet bounding through the world with uniqueness and creativity. I spent almost the entire book flipping forward to see when Richard would finally appear. It took far too long to get to the main pinnacle of the story, Richard Rahl. I was also gravely disappointed by Nathan's appearance. He was one of the most intriguing and multidimensional characters in SoTs greater story and he was utterly useless in PoC. I think Terry should sit down and map out an intertwined, connected plot like he did for the first three books and get us back to his great storytelling. It almost feels like he had a plan for a three book series and once they hit the big time, he just decided to continue on with no established direction. The motto became write more, make more money. Up until now I had always rushed out to buy the hardcover when it first appeared on the shelves but now, I think I'll wait for the paperback.
