This is possibly the best book I have ever read! What Tolkien began, Jordan has set out to finish in a better and more complicated way. If all his books show as much great success and potential as this one, then his path is clearly set for him. I hope all the following this are as incredible as this one was. Legend...

I started "The Wheel of Time" series when it first came out - and approached it with an open mind. I did enjoy it initially, but as it progressed got bored with the author trying to hard to create the complexities of a fantasy medieval world. What seemed to flow and be natural with the likes of Tolkien just seems stilted and artificial here. It is as though Mr Jordan is trying way too hard. It is a difficult genre in which to be original (strange as that may seem as it is 'fantasy'), and I think this series is trying to emulate Tolkien a little too much and has ended up shooting itself in the foot. A lot of the complexities are unnecessary and the characters a little obvious and transparent. Take David Eddings "The Belgariad" and blend it into Tolkiens world, and you pretty much have "The Wheel of Time".

This book is just the beginning of the greatest fantasy series ever written. Robert Jordan has dropped kicked Tolkien right out of the spotlight and taken the stage himself. You come to know Rand better than you know yourself, you find yourself taken aback at Nynaeve's temper and delighting at it as well, you are on their journey. The character development is astounding and the Aes Sedai imposing. Rand, Nyneave, Egwene, Mat and Perrin become your life. when I read these books I eat, sleep and breathe these people and revel in it. This man is an insanely good writer and never ceases to amaze me. I find myself buying thirty dollar books when I'm already short on rent because I can not wait for the paperback. If you ever read a book read this one, and who knows how many will follow. Simply amazing.

Best book of the entire series. I heard about this book from a friend already into the series. Once i started this book i couldn't put it down. The best part of the book is the way Jordan makes each character unique. You can actually sympathize with the characters, hate certain characters, and love other characters. Simply better than any other fantasy book out there!

This is a masterful & deep piece of work, The reluctant messiah type of theme, yet better than most in my opinion. This book begins with apocalyptic stuff- Dark & chaotic forces are opening the warfare against the forces of light (In their trademark below the belt fashion). THE MAIN message for those who have 'ears to hear'is that this is an allegory of reality. And we mainly the younger generation should be mighty careful who we side within the very near future, LEST WE become direct pawns of darkness. Anyway enough soapboxing, the first five in this series are the best, then it kinda loses it's way.Anyway whatever- ev'ry man to his own.
