Page 1 of 1 Curse of the Mistwraith by Janny Wurts
Submitted by Noelle (May 08, 2000)In the tradition of all great Fantasy Series, this one starts off with a bang. I can't wait to see how it ends. I hate waiting for the next book to come out, but I'm hooked on this series as I'm sure you will be once you read this book.
The novel is about two brothers and their unique talents that save a world. In the process of saving the world, they are left with a horrible curse. I'm certain if you are a fantasy reader, you will be hooked with the first book. If you want to get everything out of it you have to concentrate, try skim reading and you wont enjoy it.
The storyline is that a pair of princes, banished to an alien world, have to use their powers of light and shadow to defeat the Mistwraith, but in doing so are cursed to hate one another.
This is an introduction to the rest of the series, and as such mainly concerned with setting up characters and background. This means that the pace of events can become a bit slow at points, and as such it is probably the worst book in the series so far, but that doesn't make it bad by any means. Stick with it and you will be especially rewarded by the last third, which is excellant. Also, you have to read this book if you want understand the rest of the series, so, depending upon how much you enjoy detailed and complex storylines and characterisation, I would give it a 3 or 4 out of 5, good but not great. However, definitly read the series, that's a 5/5.
