Page 1 of 1 Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, The by Stephen King
Submitted by Kenisha (Dec 04, 2000)I have just recently read Steven King's "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" It was a gripping novel and well written. At first glimpse I was skeptical about a book like this from such a famous author. Surely I though It was going to be one of terror and fear, after endulging in the novel I was pleased with the comfort of a true author at his best. King is nothing less than a brilliant story teller, the story was based around a nine-year old girl (I now feel like I know) that was lost in the woods after straying from a family hike. she is often accompanied soley by the illusions of her idol Tom Goron and the fear of a creature that watches her every move.King has ideolized the the trauma that this nine-year old girl has gone through with provacative intellect so much so, a day and a half is that was required for me to finish the novel. I don't know why maybe because they were too unrealistic for me. This one was really different. I read it on one breath and liked it very much.
The book is about a girl, Trisha McFarland, who went to a trip with her mother and her brother to a hike and got lost. She spends days in the forest until she gets out.
It is the story about your fight with your dread of unknown, of something that waits you behind the tree. It is about using your primary instincts to survive.
Trisha had nothing with her except a lunch and a walkman she used to listen to plays of her favourite baseball player Tom Gordon. She made him a symbol of her survival. If he wins a game she wins her live.
The story is really impressive. It shows what means the will of one person and what means determination to do something. The book really touches your heart. I really advise everybody to read it.
